17 October 2016
If only smartphone manufacturers would go in sync with those flagship launches. But they don't and come fall we have the new iPhone, as usual, and the Sony Xperia XZ this time, joining the spring children Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5.

    Tourettes Guy, 17 Oct 2016Oh dear, iPhone 7 is crapSays the one who says XZ is best. What do you have on your eyes? Tomatoes? I have Xperia M4 Aqua and it is slow as hell (with Lollipop it took 5 seconds to make a picture, with Marshmallow about the half of that which is stil slooooooow) and the pictures are much worse then the iPhone 5 I had before. My iPad has the iPhone 4s camera and it is still more than 2 times better than the Xperia. Just open your eyes fanboy, Sony can't make smartphone cameras. They have beautiful phones (which aren't handy because of fat bezel) with good battery life but rest is just average and camera is bad. And resolution isn't everything. When you look at the pictures, Sony has most noise, not very accurate colors, not much detail, just potato level

      A: low res, cold, bright - probably iphone;
      B: low res, always warm, colorful - s7;
      C: hi res+smooth+noisy processing, cold/super-cold in night, true-to-life colors -XZ;
      D: higher res, warm, colors like from x-year old phone -G5;
      Based on from what I know how they take pics: iphone - true colors, slow shutter; s7 warmer shots; rest is obvious. The most I like XZ for true colors, but only until night when S7 excells and shots/videos from sony seems like from behind glass. Iphone got less colors than s7 even XZ, but looks quite ok also bright and hdr like. Worst is G5 - even with more pixels and great processing, color produced are like from 3 years old phone and that kills whole camera experience, big mistake on their end.
      As I shoot through day mostly and love true colors, I voted for XZ, still shame its f2 aperture...

                I'm not looking for the most "natural" pictures in a phone. As a professional wedding photographer (remember this: I just bought a Nikon D5, a professional camera with less megapixels than Xperia XZ), I can get exactly what kind of picture I want with my equipment. But considering the fact that I always have the phone with me (in this case, an S7 Edge), I need the best looking picture. Colours don't have to be natural, nor does it need to have all the details a 12MP should because, let's face it, it will eventually get scalled down to 3MP or less when uploaded to Facebook and so on. But you just can't beat high-ISO performance (which thanks to the OIS, wide-ish lens and f/1.7 aperture doesn't have to be that high), the amazing AF (remember, I have 20 grand worth of equiment and I'm still impressed with the AF on the S7, in good light at least) and overall results which are just fine, considering I've seen recent compact cameras in the 300-400 bucks range that perform worse than the S7, IQ-wise. I guess the A and B (which have the best IQ in this pictures as far as I can see) are the LG G5 and S7, I'm a little familiar with LG's and Samsung's processing and they just seem to be. iPhones still use a fairly small 1/3" sensor, about 2 (or more) times smaller than the ones used in the other phones (though the Xperia XZ, even though it has the biggest sensor, it still performs worse because of the -kinda- slow f/2.0 lens, lack of OIS and the huge amount of MP leading to smaller pixels). Also the manual mode on the Xperia is a joke, but still better than the iPhone which still doesn't have one.

                  kris, 17 Oct 2016No point in adding Sony in there seriously. There cameras a... moreNot competitive enough? Well it doesn't have as wide aperture as the others, no large pixel size, no OIS, and not 12mp yet they still continue to compare here, and even some images looked the best on the XZ. And no, P9 and Honor 8 doesn't have better camera. XZ trumps both of them away. Imo, DxOMark is what we're supposed to believe

                    1) no DSLR for proper color or exposure standard make your comparison invalid

                    2) Why no Pixel?

                      What is the point of this comparison without a pic from a proper camera ? How are we supposed to kno how the pic is supposed to look like ?

                        Anonymous, 17 Oct 2016DxOMark is a fraud, scam site.Lol you just don't want them to rank Sony #1. XZ will be the king of camera phone of 2016

                          Sure. XZ can be C, because at the first image, you can already tell that it has the highest resolution of all. I can tell that many Samsung and Apple fantards can't accept that XZ outclassed the S7 and iPhone 7 here. Noise isn't everything. Even on the first image, I can tell that the XZ is the most detailed because others are just noise-free but lacks enough details to the texts. C is XZ, C is the winner

                                  htc 10 could be included also

                                        Sorry, GSMAreana, I don't want to use foul language, but this is totally unfair. Photo C is probably Xperia XZ. Sony has set the camera resolution to 8mp by default to create noise-free, bright, crisp photos through processing. You have changed it to 23mp, which produces noisy photos with huge size. Why?! Sony knows something to keep it on 8mp. I myself, have Xperia X, and take absolutely sharp and perfect photos, cause it is always on 8mp. So this comparison is completely invalid and void.
