Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus review: Black & white

02 November 2016
It's no secret the Xiaomi Mi 5s didn't turn out the Mi 5 update we've been hoping for, even though it did improve on a number of points such as build and camera quality. On the other hand, its bigger Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus sibling is looking way more promising and ticks all the necessary boxes required to helm the company's flagship title (assuming the Mi Mix is a one-off experiment).

That camera is terrible.. The night scene stereo photos were good, the first great, but the day time stereo photos were outright horrible with the regular mode having very mixed results. My Jan 2015 Mi Note takes a lot better daytime photos:

Xiaomi have changed their gameplay, now it's throw out as many phones as possible with no emphasis on any one phone, they all lack in some way and don't make a true flagship device in the regular and note sizes.

2 Years on Xiaomi, if I don't get the MIX tomorrow I'm looking at the Mate 9 Pro, these camera samples (if real) are insane:

    As are the Specs:

Good performance and battery life, surprisingly decent camera. But the good seems to end there, with poor build quality, poor audio, and the same dubious software and marshmallow launch in November.

Overall it seems to be pretty good though, although it would be nice if they focussed a little more on build quality. I'd say op3 is better, but the monster battery on this makes it worth it IMO.

No mention of the fact the black bezels are much thinner than the mi5 or even the mi5s? That's what stood out the most to me, since those thick bezels make even the most premium looking phones look cheap.

Its good that they sorted it out, but I'm wondering why they only sorted it out for the plus variant.

Imx258? That's the same as the much, much cheaper redmi pro and mi4c/s. It's a pity. A more expensive phone than a mi5s and with far worse camera.

Great phone, great pricing, but the chances of snapping have yet to be tested and if it follows the same route as before and if the tester in question does aquire it, it could either catastrophically break or damage the frame beyond bending backwards or forward.

Also, global roms presumably can be found easily within MIUI forums and this phone, alongside the Mi Mix 256GB or the Mi Note 2 Pro, can be aquired trough Xiaomi Device. I presume theyr all reputable website assistants and sellers.
