I live in Canada and we can use LTE Band 7 with 4 of our 6 main carriers but having Band 4 as well increases the resale value of phones from Chinese OEM's. Anyway, I'm not proficient enough to flash ROM's.

So no real upgrade, better wait for Redmi 5 Prime

They cost around the same but the 4 prime has a clearly superior screen (the most important thing on a smartphone) and faster cpu as well as class leading web browsing times. No reason to go with the 3s. Also the new camera module is supposed to be a lot better in low light, there were no low light samples.

I'd like to say thank you to GSM Arena for this post. It is nice to see comparisons of phones that are so similar that it can be hard to tell them apart. I don't like comparisons like the ones you see so often in Android Headlines that compare phones that are so different that it is like comparing apples and oranges. Completely stupid and useless.

I prefer the Redmi 3S Prime. I bought it after the Redmi 4 series came out. I was looking for a very compact phone. The Redmi 4 series is 158 grams while the 3's are only 144 grams. The heavier 4 just does not fit my definition of compact. Also, when I bought mine a month ago there was a version of the 3S Prime with a global ROM, which alone made it a clear winner for me. I am very impressed with the 3S Prime. Very surprised at the fact it is as speedy as it is with no lagging, although I don't play games with intensive graphics on it, just solitaire.

redmi 4 prime is using the crappy camera from omnivision that's why it lost to the redmi 3s but overall redmi 4 prime is better but not expected it to arrive elsewhere till mid 2017.

As a current Redmi 3/land/hm3s user I can easily say that the 4 Prime doesn't really bother me. Key diff being the screen resolution for starters isn't much of an incentive at the same size and if people were to argue that its SoC which is the Snapdragon 625 is better (it is) my answer would be that I'd rather spend for a Lenovo P2 if that's the case. For those in the market for a new phone or just haven't got into the Redmi game then by all means get it. Otherwise I don't think that even longtime Redmi 2 users should be bothered.
The schtick is Xiaomi's ongoing insistence on propping up MIUI as a complete "OS" faux fork of Android, when really it's just UI albeit uniformly slapped on varying older versions of Android AND their lackadaisical attitude towards GPL compliance and kernel source release. Even when/if some gets released, it'll be a shoddy affair rife with broken bits that most 3rd devs have to put in extra efforts to fix.
By SoC alone it looks like 4 Prime is supposed to appease some Mi fans who've waited for a Snapdragon (international) variant of the bigger sibling Redmi Note 4 if nothing else.

I'm starting to appreciate Xiaomi again. If they have an official presence in your country for official support, and they don't inflate the prices of the phones, they are great buys. Heck, they still push out security patches even for an old Redmi 1S. Sure, it's still on kitkat,but Xiaomi took the time to implement security patches on it, which is a huge plus compared to other OEMs.

I always knew that Redmi 4 is unecessary. It merely adds one more device to the extensive MIUI list of devices which means less support for the rest, all the while it does not clearly improve things (or at all in some things like camera quality and bezel size).
I wish they had never released it...
