JohnyJR, 09 Mar 2017Thank you for this amazing info, I'll make sure to get this... moreI bet this phone will last you for a good 3-4 years before you'll want to upgrade again or if you want to keep it, possibly 5-7 years. Even if the price is $800 on release date, if you split that cost up over 3 years, you're only paying $270 a year for this phone and over 4 years, $200 a year.

JohnyJR, 01 Mar 2017I'm willing to give Sony a chance, do you guys think I shou... moreI would highly recommend buying it, its the first great Xperia phone Sony has made in a long time. I personally got to try it at MWC and being the owner of an XZ (2016 version), it feels a lot faster, smoother, and more refined. The big benefit of this phone is it pairs the Snapdragon 835 with UFS 2.1 memory and the back acts as a heat spreader so thermals are beyond excellent, normally most phones like my XZ from 2016 including the LG G6 can get very warm and throttle a little bit after 15-30 mins of use but the XZ Premium from my testing didn't seem to have any performance dips after leaving the phone on with 30 minutes of 4K recording. The major speed benefit for starting apps is the UFS 2.1 from eMMC 5.1 which almost quadruples the read and write speed from the 2016 XZ and the CPU is almost 30-40% faster than the Snapdragon 820 in the 2016 XZ thanks to increased core count but unchanged clock speed for similar IPC. On my 2016 XZ, if I play games for 15 minutes, my phone gets fairly warm and I get a small performance dip, if I play for 1 hour, it begins to get hot. That's not gonna happen on the XZ Premium because there isn't thermal runaway because heat buildup is much slower, you'll be able to play games or watch a video for 3 hours without having to worry about heat. Another big benefit of this phone is that the pixel size on the sensor is almost 30% larger so the low-light performance will be excellent, the problem that used to affect older Xperias with bad low-light performance was due to smaller pixels that didn't have stacked CMOS technology but this time Sony's solved the problem. I got to test some low-light photos on the XZ Premium and from what I've found is its quite considerably sharper and even though the software is in its very early stages, Sony will be finalizing the software once the phone is released and I am expecting a huge improvement to their new camera app, especially in both UI and image processing.

xperia xa1 ultra will still be crippled by helio p20's gpu, still not enough for fullhd screen, sony should use atleast helio x20

Sony is firing on all pistons again, great! The XZ Premium and the XZs looks superb on paper! Poor naming conventions aside, I think they will indeed make(.believe ;P) Sony great again!
BTW, I think not having a bigger battery for both the XZ Premium and the XZs was a missed opportunity.....

Dont feed the trolls.
Some of them mistake blur for background defocus...deliberately.
They dont know squat about photography.
And on sample pics that bacground defocus and depth of field are marvelously processed.
No blur at all, sharp, detailed, true color.
Impressive images indeed.
This ll go over 90 dxo.

I've read a couple of "oh look, how blurry" comments RE the camera but look at the iphone image and the Sony image side by side - it's night and day: the Sony may use a softer form of image processing than the iphone but it's clearly pulling in far, far more detail. The finished result is that the Sony is simply outputting a superior shot - colour, exposure and detail.
If you only notice the soft detailing when cropping 200% (as GSM's tool seems to do) then where's the problem: just how often do you pixel peep that far? At a realistic crop a softer processing looks more natural. I remember when the LG V10 came out - the processing on that was way too sharp. Swings and roundabouts.

Shame that pics are blurry as always, but at least there are great colors to be happy about. Still wonder how much different is this new sensor from last...

Anonymous, 28 Feb 2017Dxo test's camera professionally in manual mode. How many p... moreDxo tests in default 8 mpx auto mode....
XZ got a 87 score in 8 mpx automode
X Perform got a 88 score in 8 mpx automode.
X Perf is better by 1 point due to more artefacts on XZ automode, which on the other hand do not exist on X Compact automode with same camera set.
Automode is perfectly fine for point and shoot photos on these Xperias and is indeed in top bunch consistently.
Want even better results?
Use manual mode.

Alais, maybe then You ll be able to read somewhat clearer the fact on Dxo site, you know, that one about testing all devices in auto 8mpx default mode, not manual.

Xperia XZ Premium is everything I hoped for in a Sony flagship but the GS8 and IPhone 8 (from rumors) also sounds promising from what I've seen so far. All notably better than their predecessors. Needless to say, deciding which one to get is gonna be tough this year lol
