Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact review

25 September 2017
The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is a rare breed - it's small on the outside, but big on the inside. Packed with all the latest hardware and having only a small screen to power, Sony’s latest super-mini may very well be the performance champion to beat. But whenever there is a superhero, there is a villain lurking in the shadows. So yes, the Compact has its own battle to fight that’s not all about size or speed.

My x compact doesn't get very hot and that's with a less efficient chip.

This limits its impact on games, but I'm very impressed by what Sony (and of course the Android devs) have done with mid-range hardware.

No my concerns are more along the lines of: is this phone going to complain about being too hot and shut down the camera app after a few minutes of playing around with its more impressive features.

You see I'm liking the fact that Sony have introduced this autofocus burst mode, just have a sneaky suspicion that it'll cause the above issue if used for any meaningful length of time.

Have been disappointed by Xperia's in the past over things like this.

Latest Xperia phones are more responsive than those flagship today. Comparison made by a YouTuber about XZP vs 1+5 and vs U11(two of the fastest Android phones), the XZP win. The Iphone 7 did not even come close to it. Sony did a better job of optimizing the software.

I would gladly choose this phone than the gimmiky curve screen of other OEMS

Full HD was a thing back then but that really turned out to be an overkill. 5” is the sweet spot for a 1080p screen, for me.

Even if you compare to A5, better choice, different cpu requires different power to work.

This is interesting, about the camera in XZ1 gsmarena says.
                              Image quality
The Xperia XZ1 is on par with its XZ Premium sibling in terms of camera quality. That meant detail level is DECENT and corner softness is not very pronounced, unlike the XZs - the third Motion Eye camera phone.

In good lighting conditions, the XZ1 captures plenty of detail - it is a match for the 23MP cameras used before. The processing, including the colors, has not changed much since the Xperia XZ and XZs, but there is a bit more detail and less noise here.

But when it comes to XZ1C which has the same camera as the XZP/XZ1 they say.
                              Image quality
The Xperia XZ1 Compact camera samples are on par with its XZ1's in terms of quality. This means HIGH LEVEL of detail, low noise, and no corner softness. The processing is very mature and noise in uniform color areas is kept in check. The colors are accurate, as is the white balance, and even the contrast is great. Even the dynamic range is superb across all test scenes.

The only place where noise suppression artifacts are visible is along contrasty edges, where the noise reduction is not as strong to help with definition. It's not a major issue and it's only visible if you view the photos 1:1 at pixel level.

As you can see, they say on XZ1 the level of detail is decent and on XZ1C the level of detail is high and now on the XZ1C the image processing is mature!! It uses the same camera/sensor and the image quality is the same but still you (gsmarena) say 2 different things...
If you compare the two camera sections of the review between XZ1/XZ1C you´ll find different pro´s and con´s specially on the low light part even though they have the exact same camera.

Lex79, 26 Sep 2017Boy those battery figures are impressive, I'm this close to... moreYes, I'm impressed too except I have nothing to want with Xperia features. But if get this if I needed a secondary phone.

GSMArena said "The 4.6-inch LCD scr... more1080 has been done on a 4.7" screen and it was well loved by the users, and this was 3.5 years ago. 720p is fine if you look at pictures and videos, but not quite enough for small text. Solid color backgrounds will show the ugly screen door effect. I can accept 720p, but not at this price range.
