Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra, L2 hands-on review

08 January 2018
Xperias, reimagined. Sony is stepping into the new year with a brand new yet recognizably Sony design for its XA-series of midrangers, now into their third generation.

Sort by:

Sad they didn't release L2 with Oreo, but since the XA2 and XA2 Ultra has Oreo, Sony might be the first manufacturer to bring Project Treble for the masses!

Unlike your typical chinese oem who loves planned obsolescence by still releasing nougat phones in 2018

Denis Thomas, 08 Jan 2018Hmm.. What can I say now? Good move Sony, good move! Fina... moreYou completely forgot about the design. I still can't say I like how these phones look, somehow other manufacturers can make the same shape (modern smartphone) look much more interesting. No sharp edges would do wonders, for comfortability too.

Mike , 08 Jan 2018I am very disappointed with the finger print at the back. L... moreThey can't make them thin bezels then.
Besides, I really don't mind it.
For one, it is now always-active (as compared to their current ones that need to be pressed to work).
Second, it now works in the US officially (installing a different region ROM isn't really super hard, but Sony still took care of it).
And last, is that it's at least placed on the back very well. Who wants a fingerprint scanner beside the camera?

Hater Will hate always but STB on XA2 is bigger than Nokia 6 2018
                75-77 matches to Huawei flagships

Finally you took care of the bezels, put huge batteries in the game, top tier cameras and a fingerprint scanner.
There is no room for saying something bad, really a good move!

X2 should be below $300, it is not that different from Nokia 6 (2018), less RAM in fact? But the camera is surely better.
$270 at most and it will sell well.

I am a SONY fan. I really am, from my multimedia appliances at home to phones and gadgets, most of them are SONY. This first XA2 gen release has got me mixed of emotions. The front panel just got better with lesser-yet-just-the-right bezel to it (it doesn't have to be LESS bezel, no. Not a fan.) Arguably better chipset, fingerprint scanner addition, & more upgrades. But there are some drawbacks too.
Placing the rear camera lens in the top left corner has been tickling me ever since I got the Z3+. For me it's the best spot, and has proven quite handy in some of my photography situations. And so the fingerprint scanner. It was best place where I wont have to adjust my hand a bit to reach the back, just right where my thumb rests. And they could have made it a little squarish too, it might go a long better than how the phone actually looks; and did I mention it's thick? Yeah, I guess.

But hey! That means there still more rooms for improvement for the next XA generation to look forward to. After all I'm still a fan.

Why is a fingerprint reader on the back better than on the side?

Mike , 08 Jan 2018I am very disappointed with the finger print at the back. L... moreYeah.
But, well, at least USA gets to have Xperias with fp available this time.

Flagships will retain side one I hope.

Anonymous, 08 Jan 2018Yes sony has big bezel than other phones, but i dont care. ... moreActually, XA2 Ultra has better screen to body ratio (76.1) than for ex Sammy A8 Plus 2018 (75.5). ;-)

Take a peak at specs list....
