Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra, L2 hands-on review

08 January 2018
Xperias, reimagined. Sony is stepping into the new year with a brand new yet recognizably Sony design for its XA-series of midrangers, now into their third generation.

Looks Dope. Where every other phone looks the same now Sony stands out. Side bezel vanished and top bottom got trimmed to comfortable level. I was expecting slightly more thin but I expect Flagship models will come with better screen to body ratio. Once again I am fallen in love with it's industrious and elegant design. Sony is definitely on the right track. Also they are now no 1 company to provide Android updates.

AnonD-664474, 08 Jan 2018He bought a fake Sony phone or he probably used a Chinese p... moreHaha, nice save (not). I'm repeating myself, but you guys give me no other option; I witnessed a M4 Aqua falling apart literally in front of my eyes. The rear camera unit had a really bad fitting and so it came loose after about 8 months of my wife using the phone. I had to press that rear camera unit back into the body to get the camera working again for her.

You guessed it, we immediately sold the phone to someone who needed spare parts for their own M4 Aqua (a working motherboard). Not a flagship, but even for 250 euros you should never ever have to do this kind of stuff! :-) Obviously I have no interest trying my luck with another Sony, as my old k610i wasn't really a well-built phone either and was called "duck tape hell" by my friends, for a reason. And no, there's not a single flagship by Sony available that I'd be willing to switch my current phone.

2019 : Sony has decided to disable music playback in their smart phone and add a cassette player inside their giant bezels.

One thing that is disturbing in these forums Are people who says. ”Shitty phone”, what Are They thinking? And so on...

What is the point? Peoples have different preferenses, people like different things, people like different phones. So why bash some phone?

More usefull is about what is good in the phone, maybe what Are weak points.
How it compared to other phones by the same manufacturer. Because most people who has Samsung, will buy Samsung again and would like to know how this new is better than old.
Same with Sony and LG and Nokia, and Xiaomi and Oneplus etc. They would like to know is it worth of upgrading to new version or not. They don’t Are interested to read, this phone is bad, phone xxxx is much better because. Phone yyyy is much cheaper... It is not very usefull

Anonymous, 09 Jan 20181 A8+ has similar battery in thinner device so do plenty of... moreA8+ 2018 has some hardware that are smaller than the XA2 Ultra.
Front camera is one. XA2 Ultra has a flagship sensor size 1/2.3" main and 1/2.6" regular angle front, along with 1/4" wide angle front. A8+ 2018 probably settles for about 1/3.6" main and 1/4" front.

XA2 Ultra has higher STB Ratio (76.1% vs 75.5%) while packing a slightly larger battery (3580 vs 3500). IPS LCD assembly is also thicker than OLED's, so these all contribute to the extra thickness of the phone.

But the 9.5mm thickness is basically the center of the back. The back of the XA2 Ultra is curved, so the curved part must be even thinner than that.

Anonymous, 09 Jan 20181 A8+ has similar battery in thinner device so do plenty of... moreThat 1mm more on XA2 Ultra is due to
running Oreo instead of Nougat, OIS camera, aptxHD, and 4K recording.
Not to forget fat but more capable snapdragon 630 SoC inside.

[deleted post]Old enough to be a good pretender. ;-)

Samsung produces fashion phones for you, Sony produces phones for us... We dont need curved displays, we are not sick from bezel madness. We like useful phones with balanced conservative design. Understud kiddo?

                        XA2 - 74.89%
                        XA2Ultra - 76.6%

                        Honor7X - 77%
                        Galaxy A8(2018) - 75.6%
                        Galaxy A8+(2018) - 75.43%
                        Nokia 6(2018) - 73.2%
                        Nokia 8 - 69.4%

For the haters who just hate Sony.... those are the screen to body ratio’s of phones mention above. I do think haters just mention it’s “BIG BEZELS” because the XA2 series is a great phone and they can’t think any insulting other than it’s “BIG BEZEL”

Tip for haters.... mention it’s THICKNESS 9+mm instead of insulting it with it’s “BIG BEZELS” lols hahahaha

Oh no, Sony have moved away from the 'best' fingerprint scanner placement on the side!

What other 'backward' steps can we expect from Sony Xperia's in 2018 I wonder?

You want bigger battery, you get thicker body. But what I thought though is that the demand for the thinnest phone has already ended, so I was expecting to see literally NO COMPLAINT at all when manufacturers increase the battery size and the thickness of the phone.

                              2. Fingerprint Scanner was moved to the back in order to
                              a. Enable it officially in US and
                              b. To completely eliminate side bezels
They have to be relocated for other things to work. You basically can't get everything at once as of now. Screen-embedded fingerprint scanner will be better, but it will be used on flagships first before on mid rangers, so it will take time.

I don't care about the bezels, but can't understand why all those devices are so thick?? 9,7mm?!? This is so fat phone, but battery inside is not. If the phone have such thickness, why the hell they put FPS on the back? Why is not side mounted as was on XZ1 and XZ Premium? If next Premium is another FPS mounted on the back - will never buy it!
