25 February 2018
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are here, official, unwrapped, and we go in full hands-on mode. We might be sending off another UNPACKED event preceded by weeks of overwhelming leaks, but we are surely heading towards a new chapter in the smartphone photography.

I can't stand people playing their audio in public. Wireless earphones are even more available than ever before. As for the S Pen being "gimmicky", this should be standard for all smartphones.

Variable aperture - do you really need this? As if the current hardware doesn't do a great job?

What about the camera app? Will it offer RAW capture?
What's the maximum exposure time? I loved my P9+ for its 30s exposure..

Kiyasuriin, 25 Feb 2018I will answer about myself, Kiyasuriin, because others have... moreWell, to respond you are seeming to overrate this phone. While stereo speakers are a nice add, front-facing speakers are the real deal and nobody implements it. And why do you have to have the stereo speaker with Samsung because of preference? Did that just indicate that you are a Samsung fan? Raw performance? Snapdragon 845 is fine. But I actually bet 99.99% that you don't need every drip of power possible. About the camera, all phones camera aren't the best but they are improving. The Samsung camera is good but definitely not great. Actually no smartphone camera is great. Neither the Pixels, neither Apple, neither Samsung, nobody. And no, I still bet that nobody can do correct photos on a camera phone. Even not professional photographers. Want to make good pictures? Buy a real camera. To add, you can never get security when you're on the internet. It's fine when you want security on your OS, which everyone wants. No phone is great. Most have actually a lot of disadvantages and one could say that most phones are pretty much released like a "beta" version.

What I miss in the presentation is.
                      1) How soon after a security flaw in Android is fixed will Samsung fix it in their phone.
                      2) How long will they commit to security fixes.
                      3) How many Android versions will they commit too and how soon after it is released will it be available on the phone

Even though I'm in the U.S., I'll probably grab the S9+ Exynos variant in Lilac.

Cassy O, 25 Feb 2018Multi frame noise reduction since the XZ? But why every pic... moreThey take pictures at insane ISO 3200 in low light. I'd congratulate you if you could pull out a clean yet detailed output by processing it. The Galaxy devices shoot at longer exposure times, so there's the chance that you will get blurry shot or have motion blur on your image.
And to be fair, their devices handle high ISO as if they're nothing.
Hybrid AF was already on the Z5 series with the IMX300. Samsung even wanted that sensor for their S7 and S7 Edge, and it probably turns out to be true as the Dual Pixel, which is an improved concept of Hybrid AF, first debuted with those two devices.
Congrats that your S5 was the first to have Hybrid AF. AFAIK, even the Z2 had one before. But thanks to Sony, they managed to make Dual Pixel AF. Without them, Samsung would be stuck at the same Hybrid AF that you're proud off saying from the S5.

Please compare the audio quality from the S9+ through a good pair of ear/headphones to that coming from the quad DAC on the V30, and HTC's BoomSound in the final review. Whether or not I actually get this phone will partially depend on it, since I stream my music quite often.

It'd be interesting if the S9 duo had an option to switch between Samsung UX Grace and so called stock Android 8.1. They could work on making the stock Android OS more battery efficient then their default skinned Android os too. Bixby isn't everyone's cup of tea either. I've heard of Google Play store apps that help users defeat Bixby fyi everyone.
