"Haters" are far less rabid than Sony fans who say "great everything" despite critically assessing the situation.
For example can someone explain to me why does a 2018 phone from Sony is as thick whilst only achieving 73.5% BtS ratio, whilst the *very same company* could do 75.6% at the same screen size (5inches) at less than 10mm back in 2013?
Sure the battery had less capacity back then, but I speculate the battery module was of the same size given how much more modern batteries can keep in the same volume. You can say that the new Xperia has more tech in it, but again same argument as above applies (miniaturization took over, besides Xperia ZL was top off the shelf for its time as well).
What happened? 5 years passed and Sony actually made moves *back*. Is that hating, or did they simply forget how to make a compact phone?
Why was the Xperia ZL line got abandoned whilst it was clear that *that* was the direction of smartphones (smaller and smaller bezels) and not that of Xperia Z's (gargantuan bezels, that nobody bought).
Sony frequently has the know how, and then chooses ... to forget. What happened to all those teams that were before their time? Why did they got fired and the bad teams thrived?
Answer this Sony fans instead of blindly supporting a company that punishes excellence.

At least they should have present this as a medium range phone.
I do not like the finger sensor on the back, and when at the office I use the phone on the lying on the desk

After what I have seen here, XZ1 or XA2, here I come. It's a darn shame that Sony decided to ditch everything it stood for just to come up with such a half-baked effort, just a badly execured mix of other designs, with no style of its own, with ugly assymetrical front speakers, uglier back, thick sides straight from 2012 and no jack. No proper hardware changes, either. All I wanted was an XZ1 with smaller top and bottom bezels. But no, it wasn't meant to be.

AnonD-705060, 26 Feb 20185 inch ??? That's not compact anymoreyou need to account for the aspect ratio.
The 5" screen at 18:9 has pretty much the same screen width as a 4.6" screen at 16:9 (which the previous compacts used apart from the first one which was 4.3"). its just a bit taller compared to the previous compacts so still pretty much a compact phone.

No headphone jack on either? Oh Sony. Thought you guys were smarter than that. The people who designed your Walkmans are so disappointed ;-)

Alright everyone just calm down. Personally, i love the look of this phone. Sony definitely needed a design change and they done it. Yeah there's not headphone jack but you know, what can we do? If you really don't like this phone don't bash it and criticize every little thing about it just go buy a Samsung or some other android phone. It's a wonderful thing Sony has finally changed for the better. Also, why the does it matter how thick the phone is?

Sad to see that Sony ditch their beautiful and timeless design. That monolithic design was iconic.
Hope they bring it back after this "like everybody else" design.
It's chance that it will come back, and this consultant is not hired again.

I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the curve on the XZ2. I'd prefer it if the tapering started a lot closer to the edges.
The finish is pretty, but it'll obviously be hard to maintain. I think I prefer the polycarbonate in that regard.
I am a fan of the lowest camera and fingerprint reader. Not sure why I like it, but I just do.
All I hope for now is that they've finally gotten their camera work together. They make most of the sensors in flagship phones, so can they get their processing right for once?

I really considered Sony if they finally get wireless charging, but never in such ugly design which look like any cheap Chinese plastic phone!? This is not fair...
Why not keep old - you own wonderful design - and add some missing features - thumbs down!

PeterThePanda, 26 Feb 2018Sony Mobile should fire their engineers and designers for c... moreHeat Management.
Thickness on the compact was never the problem as it's a small phone and it really needs at 10mm of thickness to feel good in your hand and not slip away.
