Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact hands-on review

26 February 2018
Unlike many of its big-brand competitors, Sony didn't shy away from major announcements at MWC 2018. In fact, it took the wrappers of a shiny new pair of flagships, that boldly marry new design concepts with incremental hardware updates.

Sort by:

The new design change was uglier than that of previous generations with awkward camera placement.

By moving the fingerprint sensor to the back one would expect Sony to slim down the mobile. But its vice versa with 11.1 mm thickness and 198g weight. What happened to the sexy slim and feather weight mobiles (like xperia z ultra, xperia m4 etc.) from the past?

Sony is downgrading day by day....

Anonymous, 26 Feb 2018The 3.5mm audio jack must have been really taking a lot of ... moreBut 50% (11.1mm - 7.4mm = 3.7mm) increase in depth has brought only 6% increase in battery?
They could have easily put 5000mAh+ battery for that thickness.
Everyone are going for slim, sleek, bezeless designs and Sony is going for thick bath-tub design.
Even the concept Vivo APEX which got 98% screen to body ratio got a 3.5 jack, where as this bath-tub got no space to have it.
I am feeling ashamed for being a Sony fan :/

Very disappointing. I think Xperia fans would do better to get an XA2 instead of these two so-called flagships.

Disappointed big time by the design and same old camera hardware, Sony when you will step up your game.

Hmm i think Sony could have done better, th4 front looks nice but the back doesn't marry well with the front, and what is it with the lack of Jack, we need Jack!

The front looks great, but the back is an eyesore! The xz1 back was much much better almost perfect. The back covers look so ugly

A sony fan here. My first android was Z1, now using Z5 Premium. I don't like write comments on news, but these... Seriously? I know curved back is for the sake of ergonomics, but c'mon sony, you know your own TIMELESS Design... This is why you shouldn't redesign a month within deadline.

the worst sony phones I've ever seen, sony is still stuck in 2016 not even 2017 with their huge bezels, removed the headphone jack, made the phones uglier and way thicker, gave us the same camera as last year except it records in hdr now ..... total disappointment. how on earth is this going to compete with the s9 ? there's just no way the s9 has waaaaaaaay better camera and a freakin headphone jack and almost no bezels! not to mention a ton of other features that this phone doesn't have

The 3.5mm audio jack must have been really taking a lot of space, since with the jack removed XZ2 Compact provides a whole 6.2% (!) more battery than its predecessor XZ1 Compact.
