Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact hands-on review

26 February 2018
Unlike many of its big-brand competitors, Sony didn't shy away from major announcements at MWC 2018. In fact, it took the wrappers of a shiny new pair of flagships, that boldly marry new design concepts with incremental hardware updates.

3D Memorys, 08 Mar 20181- see all the HTC U11 especially side view... https://ww... more1 this confirms that you haven't HELD it. Read my reply again. Holding and seeing in side view are 2 different things..
      2. It works fine though. Yes it's still Less ergonomic. But didn't fps shit from side of phone to center in Sony too?
3 why does it matter in discussion or ergonomics? You said That there aren't any ergonomic phones from China, I gave you a list of that, why change goalposts?
4 what to see, qi charging standard? Like in iPhone or Samsung from Galaxy S5, or Lumia 9xx series devices?

Anonymous, 08 Mar 20181 you haven't held a HTC u11 in your hands, your statement ... more1- see all the HTC U11 especially side view...

        Thanks, Gsmarena.
2- But still not ergonomic at all.
        3- That's all copycat.
4- Something new you never know please learn:
        https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/wireless-charging-dock-wch20/specifications/
5- The wireless feature is all about simplicity and for aesthetic it also removes the annoying headphone cable. However, I also love the 3.5mm jack I can live with the annoying headphone cable when listening music but when watching the movie or Youtube in the landscape mode is better to remove the annoying headphone cable for better grip the phone and much more carefree.

2 yeah it's weird, but much better than s8 now though, that's Still improvement. They didn't change thickness for that.
3 you haven't used mi 6, meizu pro series or even Huawei honor series. A small request, Open your world view
4 wireless charging has been on phones since year. Even some Sony ericson phone had it afaik
5 ldac is there, doesn't mean remove the jack. Sony has awesome 3.5 mm Jack based earphones, why render those unusable without plugging the charging port?

dingdong, 07 Mar 2018sony is the most uncreative company in the world. 1. htc c... moreHTC has unbalanced back cover that's truly annoying when you hold it in landscape mode because it is curved on camera area and flat at the bottom back of the phone. While XZ2 has the whole balanced back cover which bring the best balance when holding the phone in landscape mode. So it is totally different designs!
            2. Samsung change their design every 2 years but they reuse the fingerprint scanner which closest the camera lens, this is annoying too because you have helter skelter stretch your fore-finger to press the fingerprint scanner at the upper position of the phone and change the hold position for stretch your thumb to press the navigator on-screen button at the bottom of the phone in daily usage. The XZ2 has wise designs because it has centered the fingerprint scanner and the steep back cover fit the hand shape which has more ergonomic to press the fingerprint scanner at center of the phone and even in landscape mode also easier than S9.
            3. China brands doesn't have ergonomic designs but only economic smartphone except the Huawei pricey series.
            4. Remove 3.5mm jack is bad but the futuristic features should adopt more wireless for connection that's why XZ2 also has wireless charging with Qnovo technology and wireless for headphone connection with origin LDAC technology.

AnonD-481725, 08 Mar 2018You will complain and not buy even if it is declared as the... moreYeap, I said that Samsung Galaxy s9/s9+ has the best device out right now, bar none. Touchwiz however.... is ugly ass.

Sorry to disappoint, but i'm actually a die hard HTC, Sony & (gasp!) Apple fan. First flagship I owned was the HTC One M7, then the M8, moved to Sony Z5 Compact after. Was one of the first few in my country to own the HTC U11 and finally swapped it with a mate for his Sony XZ Premium; the most underrated phone of 2017 (probably cause Americans couldn't get the fingerprint scanner till recently, hence less appeal/reviews).

However, the trend these days from Android OEMs, is to NOT GIVE A FK about software updates/security support for phones older than a year, not to mention the on-going issues of piracy, security & OS fragmentation that Google themselves cannot address. (there are devices still running Jellybean and Kitkat?? Lol damn.)

Finally, with Android flagships costing like Apple, I decided, might as well switch to iPhone & Macs and see what's the fuss. Honestly, pretty cool stuff Apple has that Android doesn't. I think both Apple and Android are great.

If you could see the announced year, it'll show 2013. 4k in 2013 was pretty expensive irrespective of display technology. Few links are fake there too. It was just an example to show since it was kinda the first link. I'm pretty sure the OLED costs lot more than comparable LED TVs.. besides I don't think Sony had those ginormous bezels at end of 2016, in their TV's..

OMG that FAIL fingerprint position! Put it back on the side!! It's original placement is way more accessible & ergonomic. Previous XZ1 and XZ Premium designs were AMAZING should've just kept the silhouette and just add 18:9 rounded screens..

Sony why the fk do you keep cheaping out on the smaller model? Is it so difficult to make a NORMAL SIZED (4.7"-5.2" is considered small today?? WTH) phone but equally powerful flagship with no compromises?

Sony stop making a dozen half-baked mid ranges like HTC. Focus on a handful of flagships with different screen sizes from compacts all the way to phablets.

An equivalent sized led tv flag from 2016. (ome year older model) is 3,79, thats about 10% cheaper (not 50%) than that oled Tv from 2017., and that oled doesnt even come with 3D.
Of course lcd is a better buy here, even tho a year older model.
