equake, 15 Mar 2018Just read review, the Note 8 is not cheaper (at least in th... moreI came to post this as well.
Note8 is very expensive right now, about equal to the S9/S9+ if you're NOT in USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Hong Kong.
The most stable prices globally is probably Germany. There Note8 is only slightly cheaper than S9+.
So from a value point of view, do NOT he the Note8 but instead get the S9+. Why?
You get a slightly better loudspeaker, better main camera, and newer OS version. You also get the unwritten promise of faster updates, because Note-series usually lags behind the main GalaxyS series in terms of support. And if you opt for the Exynos version of S9+, it matches the impressive GPU in the QSD 835, and decimates it in-terms of the CPU in both the Little Cores and Big Cores.
If you want budget/bang-for-buck, then get your hands on a USED Galaxy S7. The QSD 820 chip can (just) compete with the QSD 835 chip, but it's out of the QSD 845's reach... and the Exynos-9 chipset is in another league!
(The performance difference usually gets noticeable 1.5years later)

If it wasn't for the severe bloatware and just alright battery life, I'd jump at it. Then again, with the insane amount of notches coming out, I may not have a choice. Still waiting for the Note 9, ZTE Axon 9, and Pixel 3 XL for my choice.
It's a good-looking phone though.

It's weird to not see Xperia XZ2 not even mentioned in the alternative and verdict section. It should be on equal ground in the class of this phone.

I am not too convinced by modern smartphones. Maybe I should go switch back to the old Motorolas, Nokias or Sony Ericssons... ;)

If flagships are not your thing then it doesn't mean that nobody's gonna buy them. Last year Samsung sold more than 41 million Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices and this simply puts your argument to rest.

"The difference is staggering, and makes us wonder if the light threshold for engaging the main camera in 2x mode might be set too high"
??? The S9+ looks much better than the iPhone. Or do you rather mean that the light threshold for engaging the tele camera is set too high?

AnonD-385420, 15 Mar 2018Why Samsung as produce a phone loads can not afford seems v... moreSamsung produces devices in several price ranges, if you want cheap devices, you will find some suitable for your budget, if even the mid range or emtry level are too expensive for you, get a xiaomi, vivo, meizu, blu, huawei, etc. There are tons of those at very, very low prices, of course, you get what you pay for, always has been this way, and it will always be

As usual, never buy Samsung flagships at launch (unless the goodies are what you looking for). Wait for discount and it will be a best phone price wise.

I went straight to the lab test and camera quality page.
Display quality without any doubt, Samsung is the best in display technology.
Battery life, it all depends on each user, every user has different way of using smartphone. I got a comparison video and the Galaxy S9+ can achieve 6hr 47min. Here's the link, https://youtu.be/1jMnpHtK1Zg .
And the camera quality is awesome, dual aperture is really nice solution for sharp daylight image (f/2.4) and sharp lowlight image (f/1.5) and i am very glad, GSMArena brought some lowlight samples that are on the same time and condition for the comparison, and with the f/1.5 lens the Galaxy S9 turn into the best low light shooter, yes the Pixel 2XL does have the wider dynamic range but it also looks grainy.

As much as I would like to dislike the S9+, it seems to be a complete product. It mostly solves the issues of s9 (multitasking and battery) and whilst it looks dated, it doesn't seem to have any serious issues.
Still the battery is on the small side and sealed which would be a perennial issue with Samsung it seems and the BtS ratio seems t be nothing to write home about, but both are within the tolerable bounds.
First relatively good S phone since S7E ... I expect it to be destroyed by certain Chinese players (certainly in battery and very possibly in BtS ratio too), but it seems that Samsung still has some fight in her...
Of course she will go down, because she seems otherwise stagnated, but the S9+ delayes the inevitable a bit...

There was a massive difference in quality between the 2160x60 / 2160x30 images.
Am I the only one that sees this?

I just wish it didn't have the curved screen edges like that, it's horrible to use in a non-dark room/area. A deal-breaker for me, else I have no complaints. Otherwise, A++.

Very good phone, but I also have to say, from low light camera samples Sony just blew me away. From worst in XZ1 to class leading performance. Excellent job. All in all, choosing flagship smartphone is now reduced only on personal taste in design because all phones are awesome, you just can't go wrong.

Awesome phone! If you don't care about s-pen then S9+ is the way to go. By the way, Note 8 is slightly more expensive in my country.
