Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 hands-on review

10 May 2018
The ZenFone Max Pro is here to make a stand. This time, ASUS is taking the fight to Xiaomi, with a feature-packed device that should make even the demanding users happy. Whether it's an 18:9 display, a Snapdragon 636 processor, dual rear cameras, and a massive 5000mAh battery - it's got it. The ZenFone Max Pro is also an Android One device that comes with a stock build of Android 8.1 out of the box and a promise of timely updates.

The big downside is it doesn't support quick charge 2.0 only 5V/2A fast charging even it has 5000mah battery while redmi note 5 support quickcharge 2.0 9V/2A. Also no Ai feature and the camera is kinda meh.

Author didn't include the other version of 5 Pro; the Redmi Note 5 AI. In my country, the price of base Max Pro M1 is $200. Base Redmi 5 AI on the other hand, lowest I saw is $210.

5 AI is almost the same as Note 5 Pro, except slightly different cameras, AI technology (if this is a marketing term or not, I cannot answer that), and Oreo version (still with MIUI ofc). There may still be more differences that I forgot.

I would still go with Asus' side in this round. The 5000mAh battery and stock Android Oreo, together with a power efficient SoC, appeals to me as a gamer and video watcher. I wouldn't say the same if I am a photo enthusiast, though.
