Nokia 8110 4G review

06 August 2018
Ah, the memories. Even in its silly, banana-yellow attire, the new Nokia 8110 4G just seems to tickle the nostalgia bone the right way. After the wave of retro-enthusiasm, sparked by the Nokia 3310 (2017), HMD decided to sink its teeth into the Nokia resurrection game even further. Out came the peculiar curved slider that recently landed in the office for review.

This will be bought by people who use it for a week or so, show off to their friends and then left in a drawer and forgotten.

                Do some research first mister.

the camera not that bad ...

It should be added as a minus that it does NOT have the microphone in the slide (as the original did), the slide on this is a 100% passive piece of plastic only activating a switch.

It should be added as a PLUS that they omitted the silly spring of the 7110 !

A spring is a nice gimmick, but very very impractical when you want to quickly pick up the phone and answer a call, perhaps during the night. The need to fumble to find a tiny button on the 7110 completely outweighs the gimmick factor!

It is so much better that you can answer a call blindfolded with the 8110 4G, just like the original...

...The so called 'store' is currently a complete joke. In Denmark one app is offered (Weather), plus a handful of games and a selfpromoting app.

The whole thing hasted to the market and really need some polishing, hopefully updates would iron out the worst of the "Ooops"

I guess it's pretty clear by now that this is not Nokia any more. It's a low budget manufacturer who bought the Nokia logo.
I would actually have considered this had they made it a premium midrange priced device. This just looks terrible.

honestly, who at these big companies approves such a mess design? FIRE THEM. Because, the MAIN appeal of the one used in the matrix movie was the spring loaded mechanism, that means, if its not possible to engineer the phone to offer the main appeal in the first place, or doing so would cause other compromises THEN DO NOT MAKE THE PHONE. Hasn't Nokia heard the phrase "do it right or don't do it at all". Apparently not.

No mention in the review that you can supposedly use the phone as a Wi-Fi Hotspot?

This review came out same day as Android Pie.

As for me, the phone doesn't shoot 4k video nor raw images so no thanks... JK ;p these phones are only good for calling and a bit of texting. I don't see myself writing twitter post or using whatsapp!

The main problem aside from pricing is the jamming sliding mechanism. Normally I'd use petroleum jelly, but this might damage the device on the long run?

Thanks GSMArena for the review. I am disappointed about the software and hardware. Hopefully KaiOS will push updates out and make the phone better.
