ZTE Axon 9 Pro hands-on review

30 August 2018
ZTE has been branching out its mobile business quite a bit lately. Experimenting with various concepts, like the nubia Red Magic, just to see what sticks. Still one family has been notably missing form the Chinese manufacturer's lineup for quite some time.

Sort by:

6" AMOLED, stereo speakers, Snapdragon 845, 4000mAh battery... If that was what I was looking for, I think I'd rather go with the ASUS ROG Phone. Lots more innovation on that one, plus while we don't have speaker comparisons yet, the ASUS phone has dual front-facing speakers like the old Axon 7.

There's nothing that makes Axon 9 stand out from the crowd, starting with the bulk line desing .
I would say that even PocoPhone F1 is more interesting.

I don't understand why they didn't go with the axon or axon 7 design, it was quite refreshing. Instead they jumped on the notch wagon. It's all generic now.

I love that it has water-proofing (or water-resistance to be precise) & a proper dual-camera setup. Unfortunately the price is not competitive. ZTE is probably trying to make up for their huge losses due to being banned in the US till recently.

Better luck next year ZTE, when you bring back 3,5mm jack, quality dedicated DAC and same true, never before seen feature in a mobile phone. How about some balanced headphone output? :)
