It's sad. They were great devices designed for everyone. Now they are getting to the point where anyone with at least half a brain won't get one because it's simply bad economics.
I doubt this is where Steve Jobs intended the device/brand to go but here it is... a fashion XS-ary for the dim-witted and wealthy. They're not a people's device anymore.. and it's hard to recommend one when you have other companies such as LG pumping out such high quality handsets at a fraction of the price.
GSM Arena's review score should better reflect the cost of the handset, considering the average desired configuration sets the customer back 2-3 times as much as an average Android handset, capable of fulfilling every users needs, would. Come on GSM Arena.. dat price doe!

Do you want to say that iPhone is only made for that class? and you yourself admitting that iPhone is over priced :)
Smartphone is technology product and it is something that we use at least 10 hrs a day. Now smartphones is became daily need for everyone in this world. You admit or not but when anyone is purchasing their daily need product they check for price/performance and durability.
Here we are talking in general not for some short of millionaire, and those people do not have time to debt and write comments on websites like we are doing. So, we are not millionaire and we do check price/performance, durability and maintenance cost.

Go to camera settings and turn off the toggle for "Smart HDR", this will show the HDR toggle in the camera viewfinder. When you switch on and off HDR, you will see a large difference in dynamic range especially around light sources, which often gets completely blown off when HDR is off but recovered when it's on.

Will u be kind enough GSMArena to enable SCROLLING in the 'display test' chart? If it's possible in 'loudness test' and 'audio quality' charts, then why not in the 'display test' chart?

What Kudos to Samsung. Sorry to say Sony doesn't copy at all tooooo. However why you dun have all copy Sony function like Slow Motion, Water Resistance, MultiShot Camera and many more and promote heavily on those overhaul function from Sony.

At this point, people should have realised that this iphone is a sort of luxury item almost as much as a phone. When you start getting into these territories, it's not about price/ performance anymore.
A $16 000 Hermes handbag is not 80 times better than a $200 one, right?

"I'm not fan of any company, cause they are company and they are in market to make profit. But I'm so frustrated that how people are loosing their mind and welcomes companies like Apple and Samsung to looting themselves" is my concern.
And don't tell me how much money they are putting behind development, if their production + marketing cost is so much as you people said then Apple won't be the highest profitable company with 12% of market share.
And people complaining legging in android phones they must be comparing entry level phones, compare with android flagships and see the truth your self.
Future is near, you can't be fooling people all the times and for decades. Good days were gone with Steave Job, Apple is eating sweet fruits today just because of him. Not because they are now inventing new things or their product is too good to purchase at $1300+
In sweet and short their phones are overpriced and over hyped.

I am just waiting for a good selling price of my Note 8 (which I enjoyed with some irritating lags in notification, search , camera etc etc) - and wish not to come android (at least samsung - seems they just copied the iphone price but failed to deliver , no timely update etc). Hope will get good value for Note 8.

Why would you pay £1000 for the iphone xs when you can get the same features, spec and speed in the Honor 10 for only £300???

Do you think a manufactured display is easy to cut a notch and still work fine? Do you think it's easy to add features to a camera module after it got manufactured(I don't know if it's possible or not)? I thought Apple fanboys are knowledgeable based on their talks! Every hardware comes to Apple from manufacturers after meeting all the requirements of Apple. The costs shown in the article are for the final products Apple used to assemble their phone. Apple gives its design requirements to Samsung and Sony, respective display, chip and camera module manufacturers, and they in return manufacture based on those designs and supply final products to Apple to assemble. Apple doesn't just simply buy display panels and camera modules from Samsung and Sony, they make them build according to Apple's designs and requirements. It's not like they went for display and camera shopping in a mall and bought whatever the model they liked. I think you don't know how a business deal works? Right? X company gives its requirements to Y company, and Y company builds products based on those requirements and give a final bills and materials to X company. And later X assembles all the finished materials and puts its OS on it and does QC and sells it a double or triple the manufacturing costs, considering X is Apple. Even if you add additional 200USD per device for all the R&D work, it will cost Apple not more than 600USD per XS/XS Max. That's the amount you pay Apple service guys if you happen to break a display of your XS.

Google Pixel 2 XL's camera appears to still be the best, although it's from last year. Logically, the Pixel 3 will be even better

Something about this review feels off. The tone or the writing, I guess. Maybe it's a different author.
Also, why are there no pictures of the iPhone from all sides (the ones with a clear white background). It is there in your pictures section, but is missing from the review. I wonder why you didn't mention about the less number of drilled holes in the bottom of the iPhone.
Also, the audio section is written weirdly, with information being repeated and regurgitated.
The screen is awesome. Samsung's AMOLED displays are definitely the best out there. Battery is life is pretty meh. The performance in the other hand is superb, as expected. It blows everything else away! What a true beast! The 2019 Android flagship chipsets better up their game.
The camera is good, but I don't see it on par with the best of Android cameras. And finally, stereo audio recording, after years of neglect. Well, better late than never.
Apple has never been generous in terms of features, but removing the 3.5 mm jack is still a deal-breaker, even two after it was dropped from the iPhone 7. See, even the reviewers can't conduct their audio quality test because of it. And the less said about the price, the better.
