johny328i, 16 Oct 2018It's really fun to read all those huawei-hate comments, whi... moreWas this a jab at me?
I simply asked a question about why the need for a boost in performance and stated that I don't like the look of the M20Pro and I don't like the camera layout. Am I not entitled to my opinion's?
I do wish Hauwei well, wanted them to bring balance to the extreme prices of phones, but they have already joined the "elite" club with typical high end flagship prices and proprietary memory solutions.
What are the innovations that make this phone the best for you? Reverse wireless charging? The camera set-up? Maybe the integrated USB-C speaker port???
What I care about are rock solid hardware specs, 8g ram, 512g storage (normal microSD card), beautiful display (which the M20Pro has with the curved edges).
And all running Android!

I really like the 20X. However. 7.2 is TOO FRUGGING big to my taste, not to mention there's no holster for the M-Pen, which is a dealbreaker for me. I am curious if an S-pen can work on 20X or the M-Pen on a Galaxy note. :o

Oh, and before anyone calls me biased. I'm not. I do like Huawei phones, but i don't go hating on other brands unless justified.
I have criticized Apple & Samsung in their recent phone launches. Not because of hate but because i expect more out of them than what they delivered. iPhone XS was a rehash of X with minor improvements. XS Max was same but larger. Samsung Note9 was a rehash of Note8. The only unexpected improvement was the battery upgrade. Everything else was a typical yearly upgrade of SoC & Camera.
Similarly, i will criticize Huawei if they start doing rehashes. At least for now, they've done well, and i applaud them for that.
If the next iPhone or Note do more than usual, then i assure you, i will applaud them too. As a techie, it would hurt my conscience otherwise. I hope others can look at tech the same way rather than being a typical fanboy or hater.

Walter C. Dornez, 16 Oct 2018Perhaps, I totally agree, but I suppose people are mainly s... moreExactly! People should put their bias aside & give credit where due.
Yes Huawei made some questionable choices with the Mates, but unless you nitpick, they're pretty good phones all around. Huawei has literally put all the latest available tech on their phones (well, the Pro anyway).
As for the proprietary memory cards, that's purely a business decision. They're attempting to make some side-cash from external accessories kind of like how Apple does... I'm not saying that's good for consumers, but it's certainly good for the growth of the company. Besides, it's not like you have to buy the memory cards anyway. They're optional. The Mates come with plenty of internal storage, so you likely won't be needing external storage anyway.

Well at least this time the Pro is the obviously better specced. Unlike the 10series where its a bit muddled. Sure, the 10pro has oled screen and ip67, but its 1080p and no 3.5mm jack. Sure, the normal 10 has only an lcd, but its 1440p!
Same cameras! Same battery! Same dual speakers! Same chipset!

They're grasping at straws though, as for all these shortcomings, there's something to make it better than ever before. It didn't do the Samsung or Apple way by fixing whatever was wrong with the last model, it also made everything like a thousand times better

Great innovation from Huawei. Shots Fired.
All other manufacturers will now need to step up their game.
Superb triple camera combination. Glad they finally accepted that the monochrome camera wasn't useful enough and ditched it for a more useful extra wide angle camera.
Supercharge at 40W is amazing, second to only Oppo's 50W SuperVOOC. 4200 mAh is highly appreciated. Unfortunately, the ugly notch remains.
Bottom speaker firing through the USB-C hole is a questionable choice. Does this mean sound will be muffled, when a USB cable is connected?
Kirin 980 sounds great on paper. Will have to see how it performs later.
The lack of a 3.5 mm headphone jack in the Mate 20 Pro is a huge drawback though. It's presence in the vanilla Mate 20, might make people lean towards it.
The Mate 20, even with all it's discounted features is still a great phone.
The NM card is just more planned obsolescence from Huawei. They could have made it in similar dimensions to the microSD card, but no, they had to force their decisions on the customer. Disgusting tactic.

lyndino, 16 Oct 2018Why does this unit need a booster for playing games?
If th... more If you bothered to read the preview, you would have read that Pro model has so many tech implemented on the front side that CANNOT fit in waterdrop notch.
Silly camera setup ? Who cares how it looks, as longs as they do great job.
Colors ? Matter of personal taste, not flaw.
Charge other phones with this one ? I don't see why would someone be bothered with that. If you want to use it - use it, if not just forget about it.
Processor boost ? Implemented in great way - if needed it kicks in, if not - it saves battery. Why would you want phone running maxed out constantly (thus draining battery faster) if it's not needed. That why we have big.LITTLE combo for the past 5 years.
It seems to me that you're bashing Huawei without any obvious (logical) reason, aka trolling.
BTW, this phone finally ticks all the right boxes without big compromises. Deffo phone of the year.

It's really fun to read all those huawei-hate comments, while Huawei just BLEW OUT THE WATER every competitor that came out this year. The most innovations-packed smartphone on the market.

Why does this unit need a booster for playing games?
If the new Kirin 980 is so great why not have it at max settings all the time?
And yeah, the water drop on the non-Pro model looks really good compared to the Pro huge notch.
I wonder which notch is actually bigger, The Pixel 3XL or the Mate 20 Pro? I think the Pixel 3XL is deeper while the M20Pro is longer...
Colors are ugly, camera setup looks silly.
I'm still confused as to the concept of using your mobile phone to charge other phones wirelessly? seems like a huge waste of r&d.
There's just no WOW factor for me.
