Apple iPhone XR review

23 October 2018
Now updated with full test findings. The iPhone XR is the third iPhone to be launched this year, after the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. While the two iPhone XS models are nearly identical save for the size, the iPhone XR is a significant departure for the iPhone X series and possibly a new chapter going forward.

Anonymous, 25 Oct 2018Are you also jealous of people buying Ferrari, Lamborghini,... moreThey buy an expensive car so people notice them and they feel good about them self. Its the same with iPhones, people buy them to be cool to others. Why would anyone accept a worse screen, slower charging, no possibility of switching data without iTunes for MORE money? Why do almost all iPhones have the same ringtone? Because they wanna be noticed. They feel important. A huge part of the people owning an iPhone buys it because of the logo and because they don't know better.

The biggest sales advantage of the XR is people who own an old iPhone model will be happy and will not notice the proven WORSE screen? It sounds to me like "hey, they are used to use dated out tech and will pay for it anyway so it doesn't matter".

All the youtube reviews make me wanna puke. They sold their opinion for a free device, let's face it. Just put the XR next to a Note9 and start youtube. I don't even wanna mention the other 100 things that the iP lacks and, yes, they are the same category as the Note 9 costs 850 euros brand new in my country without a contract and the XR is 950 euros.

And no, iOS is not better than android at that price level. Whoever says that hasn't had a top-tier Android device for more than a day.

They cost hundreds of thousands of $ but they are only 2-2.5 times faster than a $5,000 car.

So where's the gain for the money???

Nice logic, right? Because you find these expensive and not very cost efficient, it doesn't mean that those who buy them are Ferrari sheep or Lambo sheeple. They are just people who don't care about costs.

Would you buy a $400 pair of shoes? It's not 10x better than a $40 pair. No matter how much better it is, it's still better. And better is better, no matter by what margin. The best sprint runner in the world is maybe 10% faster than the average in sprint running.
Who would you like to be: the average one for little-to-medium effort or the one that's 10% faster but has to train 10x more for that 10% performance?

Not in real life performance though. Check out app opening speed tests on YouTube. Xs Max and Note 9 are neck-and-neck, and Pocophone F1 (with its light skin) is actually faster than Xs Max in opening most apps.

There is no excuse! We need the battery test scores!

am not a big fan of Apple phones specifically or other products generally but I admire Apple. I wish any company besides Apple to make a customer buy a phone blindly and even the price is crazy high. also am very certain that if Apple sold the phone with empty box and the customer should buy the device separately every apple fan will say it's new feature and they are to buy it.

I agree the price is high but I bet it will get updates for 5-6 years of iOS where most android phones will get 2 year if your lucky and lagging behind security patches. Depends how long people keep a phone for a lot of people still use the iPhone 6... I expect this is to get them to upgrade as they will lightly drop it from updates next year as they removed it from the line to buy. Everyone assume’s that this phone is aimed at people that keep a phone for 1 to 2 years.
Granted you could get a iPhone 7.. but Next year they will probs drop that to. So imo it’s for the iPhone users that like a simple iOS and rarely upgrade

Apple's own recommended solution is to get the 30W USB-C Power Adapter ($49) along with the USB-C to Lightning Cable ($35)

yeah guys just blindly buy buy buy buy.
Give them your money. For an adapter which probably cost less than 10$

                                    Great phone. Affordable.
Looks like it’ll survive a few years as well with its build quality and updates.
Good to see the review recognise Apple’s superb after sales service. This is hugely important to many people when buying a phone and something other makers should implement.
