Samsung Galaxy A50, A30, Tab S5e hands-on review

25 February 2019
We're going to assume that we’ve all collectively taken-in Samsung's new Galaxy S10 line by now and enjoyed it in full. That's all fine and dandy, we never say no to some great tech eye-candy. But what if you don't really need the most bleeding-edge the Korean giant has to offer? Well, the "A"-series is traditionally where you should look.

So pity m50 use plastic material

All phones are too big, not good for a lot a people who doesnt want to carry a brick in their pants.

      mid range game is better!

AnonD-839715, 26 Feb 2019I thought Samsung hate notches. Remember that iPhone bashing ad.?Samsung bashed Apple's notch because it's big, wide and obnoxious. Samsung's notches and punch-holes are so minimal that people like it because it's less of an eyesore than Apple's.

awacs, 25 Feb 2019I was 100% sure, that I will go with Nokia 8.1 as my new ph... moreIf your top priorities are the screen quality and battery life, A50 is the better option. But A50 has a worse rear camera setup as it lacks OIS (not sure about lack of OIS), having more cameras isn't an advantage. The advantage on the camera department of A50 is having a secondary wide angle shooter. A50 will have a noticeably better battery endurance but it will take more time to charge for A50 as it has a bigger battery. Also, 9610 is slightly worse than SD710 but 9610 has more high performance cores. If you prefer, A50 has a under display fingerprint reader. A50 has a smaller waterdrop notch unlike a full-size notch found on 8.1.

Erceylan, 26 Feb 2019"Dead form factor"? Srsly???... Simplicity has its own beau... more156x75 mm is definitely absolutely dead form factor. That's for 190+ cm+ people.

I honestly don't understand why samsung would retain the 3.5mm jack in all their phones except the 5se a tablet for that matter. There is no logic in this. Really no logic.

"Dead form factor"? Srsly???... Simplicity has its own beauty and Tech/design world should never forget that. Simplistic designs are the most beautiful... Like srsly who writes these reviews and when will you apple fan boys stop critisizing everything non apple.

just the same as other phone

I love how the light reflects of the plastic body. Very reminiscent how light reflected on the s6/s7 bodies. Glad to see usbc and Ip68 kept intact

What's the matter with these manufacturers, using glassy plastic which will look messed up within a day. Plastic like on Pocofone would be better. And Samsung One UI is ugly

I am pretty much sure that they will launch it with some kind of one ui touch in its software

                                Tab S5e :
Isn't Snapdragon 670 almost as powerful as 835, which is what drives Tab S4?
I think benchmark scores are within 10-15% in both CPU and GPU scores, if I remember correctly.

I really like the Android One in 8.1, but everything else seems worse, that's why I'm hesitating.

                                    Thank you, I'll wait.

The A50 has an Exynos 7 9710 with a 4xCortex-A73 + 4xCortex-A53, Mali-G72MP3 so is a weaker SoC than the SD710 in the Nokia 8.1 2xCortex A75 2,2 Ghz + 6Cortex A55 1,7 GHz and a Qualcomm Adreno 616. The A50 is less powerfull in CPU and GPU.

Aside you lose a camera with OIS and the FM Radio. But with the A50 you gain 500 mAh, the fingerprint sensor under display instead at back (dependent of your preference) and some more resolution in the main camera and selfie, but with smaller sensors... so in low light you'll probably get worse photos. In anycase the software of Samsung in mid-range phones don't provide as good results as their flagships, probably different algorithms on purpose... The Nokia software in low light isn't as good too. Although the OIS and bigger sensor should help.

Knowing the differences choose by yourself. Consider the Motorola G7 Plus as an option too. And even better, wait till the end of the MWC, perhaps there is a new release unexpected these days. Finally if you're not in a hurry, wait until May 16 to the release of the Asus Zenfone 6, then choose, that could be the phone you are looking for.
