Anonymous, 04 Jul 2020It carries an exynos processor. I don't know what the... moreI think they've a mutual understanding. Qualcomm and Samsung have had some wars between them a few times. Samsung has used only Exynos SoC in their flagship too. Also Samsung always gets the Qualcomm SoC first. I think Qualcomm easily can get ready their SoC for January release phone. But they don't/can't do it for Samsung.

But if we talk about history then I must say that USA always got the best.
All phones with a better exynos(better than SD) SoC have been launched in USA(except exynos 8890).
In recent years when Exynos SoCs are performing bad, there is no USA release.

DroidBoye, 04 Jul 2020It all boils down to LG being better than Samsung on SoC + ... moreWrong !
Samsung did implement the SD865 the best out there. S20 is one of the fastest(if not the fastest) SD865 SoC device. In popular benchmark some chinese brands get high score but they usually cheat to get high score.

Anyway these weren't my point. I was saying. Somehow Geekbench 5's multicore score is lowering Exynos score.

For example if you compare Exynos A SoC on both Geekbench 5 and Geekbench 4 .
The Exynos does almost 5 to 10% better in Geekbench 4.

I don't know what the deal is but Samsung phones with exynos processors are not sold in the US. Some people have suggested it's because Qualcomm is the only company with chips that work with US telecommunications networks but Samsung could still use their exynos processors together with a Qualcomm modem like Apple does with their A series chips so that doesn't make sense. I think the more likely explanation is that they have to use Snapdragon chips or they'll get banned from selling their phones in the US like Huawei.

Another alternative i might add is Redmi 10X. I've heard good things about the Dimensity 820. And it already launched in china. Hope we have a review about it soon

Personally, I think this is a great phone and I'd rather buy this than an S series phone. But why is battery life so bad? Why can't Samsung sort out the efficiency in their exynos chips? Even MediaTek chips have better efficiency, not to mention Kirin and Snapdragon chips.

There are still more SD765 phones under the 980, LG Velvet is an outlier in multicore. Exynos 980 is new and it takes time for it to be optimized.

Might be because of the way the CPU communicates with the motherboard. I really don't know. Either,as you said, geekbench doesn't like exynos or it's because of poor hardware communication

Andreidinutu, 03 Jul 2020... Samsung has always focused on single core performance.... moreWhat I was trying to say is, the multi-core score should have been more too.
                                If one 2.2GHz A77 is better than 2.4GHz A76 in SD 765G then another 2.2GHz A77 in exynos 980 is definitely better than 2.2GHz A76 in SD765G.
Both SoC's A55 cores are running at 1.8GHz.

So, logically the Exynos 980 should have more lead in multicore.
I think geekbench 5 isn't favoring Exynos processors.
GSMARENA should've included Geekbench 4's result too.

I'm amazed this isn't available in the US (although I guess the A71 5G is and that's the same phone but bigger). Its sales pitch - "cheapest way to get a 5G non-Chinese phone" - feels perfectly aimed at that market.
