      Different white balance was used here. Older Google phones like the Nexus 5x have white balance presets, which can be used in HDR+ On mode. Many people don't know that Google already had a "night mode" in 2013. It is HDR+. In 2015/2016 Google's HDR+ took approximately 1s in low-light conditions. Night Sight takes up to 7 seconds. The HDR+ enhanced mode of the Pixel 3a is the successor of the 2015 HDR+ On mode and takes up to 2.5 seconds (or 4s if you zoom). Night Sight and HDR+ are basically the same thing apart from a different exposure time per frame.
      Sadly, Google removed white balance presets from the latest Google phones.
