Samsung Galaxy S21 & S21 Ultra hands-on review

Samsung again use their own CPU for European market is a major setback for customers. Less power and drained batteries. "When you gonna learn?"

Possibly the only two variants I will look at for this year's edition despite the lack of 3.5mm audio jack and microSD card slot. Really cannot see the point of owning the S21+.

I'm really excited to see a full camera shoot out between S21 Ultra and the iPhone 12 pro max. Also, how that new zoom rig will perform.

Smartphone camera reviews from actual camera experts don't exist. There are no smartphone camera reviews that use terms/expressions like diffraction, entrance pupil, field curvature, analog gain, exposing to the right, prime lens, etc.. Nearly all smartphone camera reviews contain inaccuracies or even nonsense.

The 24mm Wide lens shouldn't really matter though. The Mate/P40 Pro(+) makes amazing pictures using an even smaller lens. So it's either just a worse quality lens, or it's the software causing the edges to blur out. I really hope it's the latter. They still look great for the average person, and it's not gonna draw me away from the phone. It will still be a great phone, and the selfie camera is what most people will be using the most of anyway. From what I've seen the 40MP selfie camera is done right.

Nobody should draw conclusions until we've had our day 1 update, and full reviews of ACTUAL camera experts are out.

As a sidenote: Whoever said the Exynos 2100 will run hotter: well yeah, obviously. It's CPU is much higher clocked.

The amount of hate for Samsung here in the comments. The camera's are fine. The pictures taken really depend on the settings. Yes, there's some over-processing, but Samsung has been known to optimize the camera software based on user demand in the past. The camera's themselves are fine, it's a bummer they went for a 24mm lens instead of a 26mm this time, but as long as the lens of good quality, it won't make a huge difference in atmospheric distortion.

Think how much a mm thickness would increase over all volume, that’s how it effects usability aswell

Anonymous, 19 Jan 2021Wrong,it didn't look bad on Huawei P40 Pro Plus 10x opticalThe 10x camera on P40 Pro+ can produce great looking photos but IF AND ONLY IF you keep it very steady. 20-30% of the samples from Pro+ that I've seen on the internet look blurry due to shaky hands, and I bet the OIS is much, much more effective on S21 Ultra.

This had better be a defective unit or at least running on the initial software. The image quality is absolutely terrible with tons of softness on the main and UWA cameras and artifacts showing up everywhere at 10x. I hope Samsung will sort their s*** out by the time this will be available for end consumers, this is hands down even worse than S20 Ultra's photos.

Honestly, I don't care abou plastic in back, as long as the plastic is more resistant and the price decreases. My biggest concern with Samsung devices is about protection in the screen glass and the camera glass.
The camera glass also has Gorilla Victus?
I had numerous problems with camera glass scratched by sand since i live in beach area. I tryed camera lens protector protecion but they destroyed the image quality. =(

The poor image quality at the edge is due to the lens. The S21 Ultra uses a different lens for the main camera than the S20 Ultra. The S20 Ultra used a 7.0mm lens (25mm field of view) whereas the S21 Ultra uses a 6.7mm lens (24mm field of view). Possibly the decision to use a 24mm field of view was made due to marketing as the periscope camera has an approximately 240mm field of view.

The ultra makes no compromise ? REALLY ? Where is the MicroSD slot then ??

I simply don't get camera bumps. Would it kill them to increase the thickness of the rest of the phone a few millimeters and get a flat back? They could even fit a bigger battery.
