Huawei P50 Pocket review

Only interested in the battery and I'm surprised to see the difference has little impact on the stamina of the P50 pocket vs the Flip. This phone is only 4g which is likely why it has slightly longer talk times.

Again, Android manufacturers need to copy whatever OS optimization Apple is doing. The only solution cannot be to just throw a 5000mah battery at the problem.

My Flip 3 has been relegated to a multimedia player and pocketable GameCube and Dreamcast if my Razr 5G is charging. The Flex mode is awesome to watch content on it but the seamless way from watching videos on the big screen to the cover display (or vice-versa) or using GMaps just isn't there even with the SamSprung widget launcher.

I feel Razr 5G does cover display the best for a foldable flip phone. Then Razr 4G and then Flip 3. I've actually turned off any security to use SamSprung with less hassle. Using Bixby to wake it still feels more buggy and I need an Internet connection to use it. With Razr 5G, no need. Samsung really blew it for their both foldables with the outer displays. Motorola nailed it by its 2nd generation.

This P50 Pocket still feels too 1st gen with the useless circular outer display. Only slightly more useful than the 1st and 2nd Z Flip. It gets a 4/10 for that but every other area is an 8/10 or above including a larger battery than the Razr 5G and Flip 3 and expandable storage.

    For my taste
    1. Motorola Razr 5G (2020)
    2. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3
    3. Motorola Razr (2019)
    4. Huawei P50 Pocket
    5. TCL Flex V
    6. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G
    7. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

I just can't stand the design of the first two Z Flips and it's useless cover display. Why I listed it at the bottom even below the poorly reviewed Razr 2019 which technically came out in early 2020 but we call it Razr 2019. Nobody is doing the cover display right except Motorola.

Rakesh, 05 Feb 2022I stopped reading when i saw battery's ratings Same! Big fail.
I think another comment is correct, this is a phone for wealthy women who want the looks and high end style but basically only use it for sms and calls.

Anyone who want to spend 1300 euros for a phone is someone who uses their phone a lot and what's top specs. Lack of 5G is just about tolerable not to have but such poor battery life makes it a total no to me.

Any phone that cost above samsung, xiaomi, apple is hard sell. What is a solid reason to buy this? Flip 3 have everything, cheaper and better. Wake up Huawei your competitors are strong. btw that cover screen looks like a mirror.

Good to have more options with the foldable clamshells. This flip phone just doesn't cater to my needs. Razr 5G is really the only foldable flip phone to do the cover display right. I've been trying to get the Razr 2019 to own both modern Razrs, and even that one's cover display lacked the functionality of its successor.

Trust me when I say I use both Razr 5G and Flip 3 thoroughly every day. I have praised the Flip 3 a lot on here. Only recently have I preferred Razr 5G slightly more. While it lacks in horsepower, it makes up for in price, higher storage, and cover display functionality. It's the only modern flip phone that makes the most sense in design.

Is it just m me, or did anyone else go straight to the battery life section, and if the score is abysmal just skip the review altogether? I have no use for a phone with bad battery, as you become a prisoner to the wall charger and you can't rely on your phone in an emergency.

Definitely pretty solid for their first clamshell. Obviously there's much room for improvement, but that applies to all the other foldables too. New technology always takes time to mature up.

The battery is kinda 'meh', a mediocre speaker set-up with no Google Services make this device hardly become a recommendable choice. Imagine it has GG and Kirin chips tho, with the insane battery optimization from Huawei on Kirin and its power, it might gonna be a beast. But that's not the case so... yah ZFlip 3 is still the best when talking about flipping phone.

Nothing is good about this except for display ... If this have the same price as iphone 13 pro max... I'll go for the iphone without thinking twice.

This definitely for Huawei hardcore fan or someone who want an alternative to galaxy flip.

"that's making the €1300 Pocket a really tough sell"

just saw it's almost $2400 on amazon here haha. For a 4g phone

The battery life could be better. Maybe something to work on for next gen device. Very much a niche device. They need their Kirin chipsets very badly. No way would Kirin be so bad with heat and battery consumption. Qualcomm supplying overpriced crappy chips.
