It's more or less the same apart from the processor and main camera sensor. The phone is ok overall for use in China. I mainly use it in China but I had a few issues relating to using it in Europe this summer. The main one was Google maps. It would automatically disable the voice in the middle of a journey (i tried to give it all permissions but still seemed to happen). Occasionally, I have problems on Skype and Whatsapp calls too. For some reason the other side can't hear me sometimes. When switching to my old Motorola (on Chinese firmware) it works fine. Apart from these things it's ok. The speakers aren't great which would be another minor complaint. Screen, performance, and battery life would be the strong points in my opinion. I think the Redmi k70 pro will be launched within 2-3 months though so probably not worth it at this stage.

The main camera seems about the same on the Xiaomi 12 and Redmi k60 pro as far as I can remember, but maybe the k60 pro is a little better in terms of noise reduction. Heat was the main issue I remember but then again I got it in the summer in China when the temperature is in the mid 30s. The camera would sometimes shutdown when recording video sometimes. It got relatively warm/hot relative to other phones I've used when just using it normally (I don't play games at all so mainly just used it for browsing). Definitely, the k60 pro with snapdragon 8 gen 2 runs a lot cooler.
Apparently the Xiaomi 12s was much better in terms of heating and battery life as these issues were mainly due to the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 chip. Sorry, though I can't give any update on long term use as I used it only for a few weeks before returning it.

Im considering to buy because someone is selling to me an unopened box brand new for 300. Is the battery life still worth it? Does it heat up even when browsing or playing video in youtube?

I believe that there is a mistake regarding the audio balance, I have a 12 and the audio used for tests seems louder on the right, but other audio is balanced. (YT and Deezer)

Battery life on the 12 Pro is abysmal, I left my Huawei P40 on for 4 days (without use) and it still had battery. Xiaomi 12Pro won't last a day (normal use)

Aierlan, 25 Jun 2022Can't understand how Gsmarena concludes this has aweso... moreI have since stopped listening to GSMArena staff assessment on camera performance since LG G3 camera performance, and now used the studio comparison tool. Many of GSMArena's "very good photo quality" phones, when compared to the "mediocre" phones, are actually not that different when using the studio comparison tool. Especially in low light, you will see that any phone cameras will have problem replicating blacks and supressing noise.

I am a bit disepointed why xiaomi didn’t add a 2x tele lens

Can't understand how Gsmarena concludes this has awesome cameras. Bought it based on the cameras. The only two positive things I can say about the cameras are 1. It's quick to take a photo and the motion tracking feature is very useful for taking pics of kids and pets. 2. The video quality is quite good. However, the downsides are plenty. 1. The colors on many photos are completely off and look nowhere near close to the original scene (strong oversaturation and very high contrast). 2. There is a lot of noise in indoor pics in darker areas (more than my previous much cheaper phone). 3. Photos have dark shadows. 4. Detail is very mediocre for scenery pics, again worse than my previous phone which was a midranger with an OV64b main sensor. 5. This is the most annoying one. Human subject photos usually come out with a strong red tint whether in normal or portrait mode. Depending on lighting they can also come out quite dark and turn brown hair black. It is hard to edit the colours afterwards. Basically you have to use gcam to get any kind of decent human subject photos at least for indoors pics.

The other main issue with the phone is high heat generation but I think that is an issue with nearly all snapdragon 8 gen 1 phones

Companies need to stop getting Samsung to supply the wafers and manufacturing of cpus. From exynos to snapdragon 888 and 8 gen 1 and the tensor chip in the pixel ALL HAVE OVERHEATING PROBLEMS WITH MOST HAVING POOR BATTERY LIFE. Not just that but Samsung made modems are terrible, the one in my pixel 6 pros tensor gets beaten consistently by the one in the kirin 990 by Huawei (hits higher numbers on the same WiFi/using same sim card and is far more consistent an battery efficient). The tensor chip manufactured by Samsung has constant Bluetooth issues aswell and glitches out my wireless headphones, never happened on my kirin based Huawei phones.

Pretty disappointing phones this year by Xiaomi to be honest, lacking features, not as stacked cameras as last year, virtual proximity sensing rubbish and poor battery because of the poorly built SoC manufactured by Samsung. If they throw the tsmc manufactured 8 gen 1+ in the ultra and release it with the new collaboration with leica for photography (which they are the best, specially for phones) could rescue the 12 series and be phone of the year easy.

Xiaomi 12 warms up to 38-39C very quickly just because of the data transfer over WiFi/LTE. It's a very hot and uncomfortable to use phone. A waste of money.
