Yikes, the only thing decent here is the camera. Everything else is just awful. The 90 Hertz screen is pointless, a higher resolution would be better, but this way they can hide the weak chipset more, I bet it was a deliberate decision. This line of phones consistently gets some of the worst ratings of all phones nowadays, simply because Samsung are idiots, squeezing in too many advanced features instead of focusing on getting the basics right.

I think it's safe to say the Poco M4 and the A04s use the same speaker, haven't seen audio curves that similar between different company phones before not including sister companies rebadging the same product

dude1, 05 Nov 2022waiting for budget phone that isn't a 6.5 inch slab...Exactly! My old Motorola moto g was waterproof, decent battey, decent camera - and 150 euros. And decent size! About 144mm. Why is something like that impossible today? Yes, there's zenfone but its 800-900 euros.

its predecessor (A03) has proximity/light sensor and Edge Panel, which the A04s doesn't.

dude1, 05 Nov 2022waiting for budget phone that isn't a 6.5 inch slab...Same, I'm kind of sad most of the cheap phones are huge now. They're all large and heavy. The only small cheap phones are very bottom of the barrel or not available in all countries. I remember when the cheap Androids used to have smaller screens than their mid-range and higher counterparts.

Most times it's the reckless young who waste their money...my advice...don't paint old people as dumb..we managed to live a lot longer then some because we are smart cookies ..

They could have used a full HD Amoled screen and provided a charger, protective case & wired headphones in the box. For that price I would recommend Nokia g21

There are cheap devices that run very smooth
Specifically those on unisoc T series
Even something like the Moto e22s
Problem is tech sites are inexperienced with ultra cheap smartphones
Their bias sways to mid range and flagship so they don't have proper reference as to what's excellent at these ranges
They should go out their comfort zone and review some blackviews, cubot, oukitel etc
Only then can they relatively understand what camera quality is expected at X price range etc

M23 is only £40 more on Amazon. If you're owning a phone for 3 years or more it's a no brainer to save up for that, rather than this hopeless device.

You'd have to really hate yourself to buy this phone. Redmi note 11 is better in every way and if you really want Samsung save up a few more months to afford something you won't hate. It's not even mediocre.

Another Exynos 850, that chip is already going to be 3 yrs old by next year. I hope Samsung bump the processor of there Low-end device quite a bit.
Samsung's High-end is good but the Mid and most especially the Low-end really not up to performance. If Samsung cannot create new Low-end Exynos, then use newer Low-end Snapdragon or even Mediatek - not the G25 o G35/G37, those are not worth it but maybe G70 at least.
I wish they don't plan to use this same chipset again next year.

One biggest let down for me is the absence of an actual ambient light sensor. I don't know why Samsung has been doing this, it goes way back to even the J series. Surely I can't be adjusting brightness every now and then due to the unreliability of the front camera for brightness adjustments.

First Sony, now Samsung for ditching chargers from retail packages.
Also the Nokia G21 with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is a viable alternative at the same price or less as the A04s base model (or the G11 Plus at a lower price despite not a match for xiaomi devices).

Even old people use social media and watch YouTube these days.
Add some more money and you will get a midrange that lasts for years.
