The unique selling point of this phone for me is the software updates. I am tired of using a fine phone (currently Huawei P20 Pro) and then replacing it only because the software doesn't get security updates anymore

Or are you one of those that like to command everybody what to buy and what not to buy to make themselves feel better just for the sake of pushing your own will through? Looking at your comments, you're just like one of those.

Why were the low-light photos taken in a different location than the daytime photos? They should have been photographed in the same place so that they could be compared.

In your post, you say - "Competition

To some extent, comparing the Fairphone 5 to the other smartphones priced around the €700 mark would be unfair, mainly because the Fairphone 5 is aimed at a completely different audience."

Not entirely true, Fairphone is unusual but not unique, there is a lesser known German company, SHIFTphone (https://www.shiftphones.com) which is a direct competitor to Fairphone. Which is the better phone, I don't know, but there is a choice for those who want planet - friendly phones ;-)

This is not an ad, just a point of information.

Mike0902, 26 Sep 2023Why do manufacturers and reviewers seem to think that every... moreExactly. Also I am fed up of 1200+ euros devices these days if you want the top dog.... my Xperia 1 mark ii has stopped getting updates since June last year and I have to charge the phone twice or thrice a day depending upon use ... but my phone is still fast performing and catering well to what I throw at it..... but I can't be bothered to invest laptop money every 2 or less years .... hence I am looking at this fair phone 5.
I read this while review in expectation that the reviewers will review it from the lens of its makers claims.... but all I got was geekbemch, antutu and other charts.....
I want to know the review of someone who wakes up has a bunch of Google good morning commands, goes to work with a podcast, gets train notifications, checks some emails, uses it as a hotspot, uses Google maps, watches a few videos and uses throughout a long flight, swap the battery to get 100Percent full in 10seconds.... then gets to the destination, goes out, have fun, calls Uber, check into the hotel, send some emails....etc that sort of thing. And maybe catches a couple selfies with friends.... that's it....and audio ... I don't care if they would have said we just used a moondrop external dac and sony MDR iems..... just want to know how the phone is to live with.
And also 1 nano sim, 1 e sim and 2 TB sd card .... I want them to check that.... report on that....
Does it support dual modems for faster internet? That type of thing ...
I guess I'll have to goto their head quarters and talk to some of their enthusiastic employees/ engineerers, if they let me..... lol

Leanzazzy, 28 Sep 2023They should call it the UNFAIRphone because it's so ov... more5 year warranty, 5 OS updates till Android 18 and 10years of security patches ... that's also maintenance cost.

They should call it the UNFAIRphone because it's so overpriced for what it is.

They're using "saving the planet" and "paying fair wages" as an excuse to rip customers off and make them pay premiums for devices that are not only are more expensive, but also much slower and more ineffective than all their contemporary rivals. All while being proprietary so you are reliant on Fairphone anyway to maintain and supply those parts.

If you want to save the planet so much, either don't buy a new smartphone every 2 years, or just use a dumb phone. They last forever.

If you really want a new smartphone every few years, just buy a low-end smartphone. They're really cheap and much more value for money than this nonsense is.

People who want the fastest phone won't want it, and a lot people who are fine with it's shortcomings can't afford it. Maybe if it was $500 or had better specs it would be another story.
