"but it might be the opposite and might have false details."
Yes, that's indeed the case. Just look at the last sample image from the 9x comparison. Look at the name "EDILMA" in the center of the image. The 9x machine learning version makes it more artificial.
It's also possible that Samsung uses pixel binning at 10x in certain cases even in good light conditions (my Pixel 7 Pro only uses pixel binning at 10x, if the light conditions are not good, otherwise it will always avoid pixel binning at 10x). In that case, the 10x mode doesn't capture more information than the 9x mode, so it's easier for machine learning to pretend that 9x is better than 10x. For example, the 10x image of the mountains looks a little bit as if pixel binning was used, but of course I don't know whether that was really the case.

4.6 score with the whole myriad of display issues? This is hardly 4.3% this year. Samsung is clearly trying to save money on demura process. and all units are affected. If you dont see graininess on yours it does not mean it's not there.

Anton el .PAPI, 13 Feb 2024This phone is having problems with the panel pixels! and a... moreWell, the "graininess" which seems to be the issue is only visible at the lowest possible brightness level and in dim lighting conditions. Still, it is weird and if it turns out to actually be a hardware problem, then that's a rather small-big faul

Thank you for the review! Appreciation and also a small dissapointment were felt, same feeling here as an old "S" series customer. Will you make a PWM dedicated subsection? This is something that has begun to matter, as our eyes grow older and more tired:) also, call quality is something that (still) matters.

Guys, please stop downplaying the grainy panel. You can clearly see mura even on 20-30% brightness (Settings screen, tons of websites with gray colors, Reddit) in dark environment.

"The thing is, the S24 Ultra can capture better looking images than those taken at 10x if you can be bothered to fiddle with pinch zoom and get to a 9.9x or a 9.8x magnification (but not 10.1x - that doesn't help). These exhibit more natural processing and tend to have a nicer rendition of fine detail, plus somehow less grain in the skies."
I think it is the opposite. Probably, the S24 Ultra uses pixel binning + machine learning at 9.9x. Machine learning adds more detail, so you think that it looks more natural, but it might be the opposite and might have false details. You could check the resolution of the dng files. The holes definitely look artificial in the 9x image and it looks like machine learning upscaling in that case.
My Pixel 7 Pro uses pixel binning + machine learning at 9x. The results are extremely artificial in comparison to the 10x images.

Second! I now read part of the review and gotta say, S24U looks pretty good from a 2019-2021 upgrade. I would also recommend i15PM, One+ 12 and S23U.
