Unknown , 25 Mar 2024Lol how did you know Keep shut

Johnnygums, 30 Mar 2024This battery test was done before the phone finished it... moreYou're probably right... it could explain why the GSM battery tests had the iPhone 15 Pro Max lasting a whopping 2+ hours more than the S24U - when nearly all the tests on YouTube actually have them neck and neck (or the S24U lasting longer).

This battery test was done before the phone finished it's optimisation. I actually get well over a day and this weekend a day and a half and I'm still on 18%. Much better than my oppo find x5 pro but on the test you show as worse.

I am here to write about my personal daily usage of the S24U. I do all my work with this S24U, but I am not a gamer. This is not a review, though.

              1. The **Weight:** I am not surprised by the size and "original" weight; I knew it before buying. I do feel it is a good fit for my hands. I bought an authentic standing grip case from Samsung, and I am surprised that the weight becomes 300 grams. I feel it is heavy now, lol.
The case protects it very well, preciously, although it makes the S24U thicker and heavier. The camera is now shrunken in.

              2. The Display. Please trust me, I am still finding faults (i.e., grainy display). I did all the tests but could not find it in mine.
I also compared it with my forever A8 (2018). At the same level of brightness, the white of the S24U display is not-so-white; the A8 is whiter.
I cannot find the difference between the vivid and normal modes, although the slider makes it a bit different.
I do not like Adaptive Color and Eye Shield, so I turn these OFF.

              3. The battery is okay. The Anker 60W charger plus Anker 3A max. 60W cable needs 150 minutes (less than 3 hours), but the same charger plus Ugreen 5A max. 100W cable needs 65 to 70 minutes. I charged from 0% empty to 100%..
I turn the battery saver, battery protection and bettery features OFF.

4.The camera. I have no issues at all. I realize that the result may not be the best, but the photos are consistently fine in any condition. The still photos may not be everyone's cup of tea because of Samsung's characteristic dramatic effect. Thankfully, Samsung made this a bit more natural this time.

              5. The performance and Galaxy AI are fine.

Lastly, what I hate is that the S Pen makes the bottom frame of the S24U not completely flat.
              Peace.

Today I tested the myth that for example 9.6x photos would give you more detail from an object than 10x. I tried the S24 Ultra in a store again. I took a photo of a distant sign and at approximately 9.6x, I got less detail from the sign than at 10x. Though, when I used Pro mode or Expert raw, the behavior was different and I am not sure whether there was a difference when I used these two modes. Furthermore, Samsung seems to upscale the dng files, that's a bad idea.

My guess is that the default auto mode behaves similarly to a Pixel 7 Pro/Pixel 8 Pro. On my Pixel 7 Pro, Google uses pixel binning at 9x and uses machine learning upscaling. This leads to extremely artificial results, so I basically never use zoom settings between 5x and 9.8x. Only at at least approximately 9.8x, there is no pixel binning in good light conditions.

7 years of usage? Of course it can be. S8/S8+ is now 7 years age and the phones is still fine for daily usage. Only few games that need power may not fit in but we can set the setting to low mode in S8 series. Good luck S24U and its family.

I noticed that when I went to 5x the zoom moved decently far. But when I hit 10x it barely zoomed at all.

The difference is just very little and we can adjust it through the vividness slider.
For your concern, you may turn "eye shield" off.

I turn of "eye shield" off, use standart (nor vivid) color and just turn adaptive brightness on. My display is set to QHD and 120Hz.

Last year I lost my regular S21. As I needed a phone, I went to the shop and got myself an S23 Ultra-a great phone with an awesome display, way over my S21. After a couple of days, the S21 was found and I returned the S23 Ultra, thinking it is not the time to invest in a new phone, as I was expecting the new Samsung generation. After having the S23 Ultra experience, I didn't think twice this year and got myself a S24 Ultra, thinking that it is as least as good as the 23. But, well, the display colors from my S21 are better than the ones from the S24 Ultra. The phone is working follweles, but I am still having a hard time adapting to the new and way inferior display.

According to Samsung Australia, the 2x photos are crops from the 50 megapixel mode.

Can you save 24 megapixel photos with the periscope camera or only with the main camera? If no, this would be stupid and would indicate that Samsung just tried to copy Apple because the 15 Pro Max doesn't have a 50 megapixel periscope camera, but the S24 Ultra does have a 50 megapixel periscope camera.

Last year I tested the S23 Ultra at 30x in a store. My conclusion was that the S23 Ultra's 30x is unusable due to fake details, for example, the letter R was replaced with A, when I took a photo of a distant sign. This issue wasn't present at 15x or 10x. My Pixel 7 Pro didn't have this issue and also delivered more detail than the S23 Ultra at 360mm (roughly 15x) with Google's short Night Sight mode turned on.

A few days ago, I compared the S24 Ultra with the S23 Ultra at 30x in a store. I took a photo of a distant sign. The S23 Ultra looked noticeably cleaner, but it again had the issue that it replaced R with A. Sometimes it even replaced 99 with 88. On the S24 Ultra, this issue wasn't so severe, the R was still an R and 99 was still 99, but some smaller letters were still fake. So my impression was that the S24 Ultra is better than the S23 Ultra regarding fake details at 30x. Most reviewers just look how clear a photo looks and don't examine whether the details are actually true. So at 30x, I again disqualified the S23 Ultra.
The most natural results were again from my Pixel 7 Pro at 360mm (approximately 15x). At 360mm, the S24 Ultra had sometimes slightly less detail than the 7 Pro, but in some areas sometimes maybe also a tiny, tiny bit more detail. But the 360mm results of the S24 Ultra looked less natural, there were artifacts and more noise and the results were more inconsistent, too. For example, taking a 360mm photo again could lead to significantly more noise than in the previous photo.

I use them only for music, and when I'm done I throw them back on the wireless pad. I rarely charge them via cable.

But, that's a very specific use-case. For my daily driver, I use it all the time, so a fast charge via cable is more convenient.
