Samsung i8510 INNOV8 preview: First look

01 August 2008
The new Samsung uber-phone, called Samsung i8510 INNOV8, is finally in our hands. It packs so many goodies that it's hard to decide where to start from. It's not the first 8 megapixel handset but it's the best we've seen so far...

Specswise and photowise it stands out above the crowd. But if I read a couple of comments that the theme of the interface can be replaced by anything you like: why wouldn't Samsung start off with a more up par theme to the specs and design side of the phone? Why is it that difficult to implement an equal default theme, whereas they can put together such photographical potential? Really, if it's that simple, why not enclose it already.

Just a thought here. Why can't you just give credit to whoever it is due. Who did you copy to walk? We all learned to walk, also talk. Did you know that artists were responsible for drawing the handsets for these companies? B4 this, I thought the N82 was the best device (being a SE fan), but here we all know that the best device has evolved. Let's just appreciate the efforts of Samsung and stop all the childish babblings about what the phone hasn't gotten cause you KNOW for a fact that this is undoubtedly the best phone to date. Don't forget that in the first generation of colour screen phones, samsung were by far the best looking. They are and have done an outstanding job with this phone. Be true to your consciences, appreciate the handset for what it is. Why shoud they include everything in one mobile? If they did that, they'd just have to stop making phones then you would be the same people sayin' how stupid they are. How silly it is to say the only thing wrong with this handset is that it isn't nokia! The best phone has finally arrived. Nokia, SE and all the others will now have work to do if they are to overthrow this device. I am a SE fan (using my P1i to send this text even now), but they are way too complacent. They can and should do way better than they are doing. Their "NEW" phones are outdated even before they are released. Nokia, HTC and now Samsung are moving in the right direction. LONG LIVE THIS INNOV8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dyaus, 08 Aug 2008Nothing can defeat N 82 ; its certified as the best camerap... moreIF N82 was certified as the best cameraphone it was for 5 mp cam... Thats history now. What makes you think that only SE or Nokia doing RnD and others are sleeping.

Read..."Although our Samsung INNOV8 is a pre-production unit, it clearly produces by far the best photos we've seen from a cameraphone"."Frankly, we couldn't find a single fault to criticize as far as the Samsung INNOV8 camera quality is concerned."

      Learn to accept it. Peace.

Nothing can defeat N 82 ; its certified as the best cameraphone... And Cyber-shot technology is far better than any Samsung camera. And now, how the hack a Samsung can ever be better than Nokia or SE ?
        P. S. Did I mentioned Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar ?

Except bit Bulky size and without a gr8 flash this handset is nothing much but very impressive and its quite shocking to me as I always under rated Samsung… but this time they have done it… I can assume that the sound quality is also going to be awesome as there is two loud speakers and S60 V3.2 can provide excellent audio playback through headphone.. Can any one beat Samsung now? Except Nokia no-one can do so and that’s for sure. Even C905 will rank second to this handset…

          Good going sam-sung!

Anyone know how the video playback fairs against the omnia??

Torn between the two as camera quality isn't too important to me - but really looking for a good video player (divx, avi being most likely format for me).

            Cheers

charliemike, 07 Aug 2008don't be naive striker. if SE can offer both led and xenon ... moreNaive? I would say that those who expect everything but the kitchen sink on one device to be the Naive ones.

For a start, there's the commercial side of it - why would they include Xenon and Optical zoom on this device when they can release its successor in a few months with those added and make a shedload more money.

Also, theres the power consumption side of it. Xenon drains batteries quicker than LEDs, and optical zoom is a HUGE battery drainer....if this phone had both of those it'd need a stronger battery, so it would be difficult to make it competitive price-wise if these were included.

The fact is, here we have a top-notch 8mp cam on a MOBILE PHONE, which takes excellent pics, even in comparison to a stand-alone digital cam, and is also loaded with GPS, wifi, 16m TFT screen, 16GB onboard and still people moan. And I'm the naive one??? Whatever.

I see a lot of people here are annoyed that a Xenon flash has been left out. Do any of you guys actually know how effective (or indeed uneffective) a dual-LED flash is? Should we not wait until we have some sample pictures taken in the dark before we start sticking the boot in? Just a thought.

an optical zoom and a xenon flash would have made it a true camera phone but still it is good....but xenon was an important ingredient which samsung missed out

How do all three cameras, I mean phones compare at 2 meg pixels? It does seem fair to have the iPhone in this test, as it is only a 2 mega pixel camera. Let's at least compare "Apples to Apples" in pun intended.

I wonder if it has SIP (internet telephony) and if the wlan setup is manual ala i550 or is wlan wizard included like most wifi enabled nokias.
