That was about six years ago. I wasn't surprised. In any case, I'm still using a 5iii and an LG g 8 for music. Sony phones not requiring a tool to open the sim/SD tray is a nice user friendly design.

It's fine, really, too narrow, but fine. I still prefer the LGs but they were removing features toward the end. The Velvet didn't have the quad dac. That was supposed to be their mainstream model that was going to be their comeback as a major phone seller.

newflesh, 18 May 2024A small group of fans like gsmarena put it Even though I'm now into Sony phones after LG's smartphone exit, I still struggle with this phone. Personally speaking, there should be a middle ground between the Xperia 10 and the Xperia 5 with at least a Snapdragon 7 series SoC. Ironically, Sony planned to do such a thing with the Xperia 10 Plus Mk2 before it got cancelled to focus on 5G*.

As for charging, pretty much any 20W+ charger is right choice?

I got currently Official (from Samsung Warehouse) Samsung 25W GaN charger, it does have PD 3.0, POD, PPS features and current shielding, overvoltage, overcharging and overheating protections.

I bought it because of standby only 5mW (!) compared to default 20mW+

Power1, 18 May 2024It's not about hostility, it's about thick-headed... moreI think you're mistaken at least on what concerns bigger screens... bigger screens aren't better, at least for me and the majority of compact phones target audience, like the 10 VI. If it was possible I'd like to get a phone as small as the iPhone SE but with updated internals, of course, microSD card slot, 3.5mm jack and so on... so what you mention as better features on other phones, aren't necessarily advantadges for many if us who are interesred in compact phones like the 10 VI.

Personally, I check GSM Arena's news / reviews everyday, and I rarely find anything that interests me, because nowadays 95% of the phones are quite similar in what concerns specs, at least.

Plus the Sony x bravia color has better than samsung / apple. The white backgroud is truly white not yellowish or greynish. Sony always win display every generation of their phone . 60hz scteen is a bummer for sony fan .. indeed.. it more expensive but that what make special and different than other.

No difference between the Xperia 10 iii, iv, v or vi.

Few people obsess about the specs on their phones, brag about their phones and mock people for using phones with lower specs than theirs. Most people want a phone to be user friendly, have a few features they use and, above all, be reliable and last for as long as they can. They also don't want to spend much, including people who can afford these flagships. It's not as if you're buying a car that will last years, clothes, a non "smart" watch, or even a real camera Phones are designed to be out of date within two years. Very few actually enjoy shopping for phones, buying them, setting them up, putting on s screen protector, finding a case and all the other stuff. Passwords, organizing the settings to the way your old phone used to be, having to get used to a new UI, pairing Bluetooth devices and the rest of it. I hate doing that stuff.

Here is a rough power efficiency tier for process nodes (each higher tier gives ~5% more performance at same power, or consumes ~10% less power at same performance), TSMC 5/4nm process has been 4 tiers ahead of Samsung 5/4nm process since 2020 (when the first products based on TSMC N5 and Samsung 5LPE arrived). Samsung's latest node 4LPP+ (Exynos 2400) seems to have barely caught up (or is still slightly behind) with TSMC's 1st generation 5nm node.

They sort of screwed themselves by the prices and lack of availability. Sony is a huge corporation, it has plenty of interests in things other than phones. It's just one more thing that they make. Not all of their electronic gadgets are available in all countries. I don't understand why people feel an affinity to any company, let alone a multinational corporation. I haven't seen these mythological "Sony fan boys" in these tech blogs. Some people appreciate the features and designs of Sony phones but I've yet to see their ego intertwined with Sony nor have any here been saying that Sony phones are not without their quirks and flaws, just like all phones are. It's just a phone!

Yes, I currently use a Sony phone, the 1 VI won't be available where I live. I was planning on buying that, I can't now and I spent a few seconds caring about it. It's too expensive anyway. I prefer a short wider phone. I'm 60 and not a child but, apparently, I am using a child's phone. Children shouldn't be using mobile phones. I bought a 5iii, more or less the same shape and sizecas the 10 VI which I assume also won't be available in the U S. I bought it because the 1 is too expensive. I find it to be too narrow and a bit too tall for pockets but it's still far more comfortable to walk around with than most phones these days. I didn't buy it to appear to be different. People where I am know that I'm different because I behave rationally. I both the Sony never it has expandable memory and a headphone jack. Although too narrow, I appreciate the design. The only time someone not working in a phone store or a friend asking me how my phone is because they're looking to buy a new phone, was a young guy who asked what I was using and where he could buy it. "I like that shape." It was a sluggish LG V20 with battery drain, but a user replaceable battery so I carried a few with me. I was using it because T moble blocked the then recent LG I had. They wound up blocking that one, too. After a week they fixed it but I was told that I cannot depend on the LGs working on their network. I expect them to block my 5iii at some point.

I was expecting Sony to actually bring in a new set of camera sensors, but finding out they are using the same sensors as 10 V is a big deal breaker, price cut or not. They already wasted a year with the same CPU and specs, and honestly, idk if they are planning to pull the plug.

Sharp will eat them up in the Japanese market along with pixels. This here is a poor proposition of a midrange.

I personally think the narrow width is sensible given that it makes gripping the phone easier for people of any (hand) size. It's the laughably tall TV remote-like height that's killing the product.

They got everything else right; decent cameras, decent thermal performance, decent CPU, SD card slot , 3.5mm jack, IP ratings, a clean android skin which is pleasing to use with almost no bloat and some genuinely useful Sony apps (love their music player and launcher)...

The width of the display is sensible, makes gripping easier for even small hands. However the display is an inch too tall imho.

Just imagine this with the same width and a shorter display, would have made a very sensible compact phone with a decent camera and a clean android overlay, not to mention the SD card slot and the 3.5mm jack!

The 60hz display doesn't bother me but I can understand people being upset at it.

Sony had a winning formula with the Xperia XZ Compact series phones but they stopped it with the XZ2 Compact which was a shame!!

I find most modern android phones from other manufacturers to be just too wide which makes single handed typing very difficult (even swyping)!

Too bad Sony keeps sabotaging itself over and over; one step forward, one step backwards, displacement = 0...
