Dear All,
I have problem since I got my renoir, I do know how to make the GPS work, I found google maps installed on the handset but when I click on it nothing happens, it ignores the command. Can any one advise me on this?
Also, is there any way to make duplicate for a specific contact??? it's important feature that I suffer from.
Thanks in advance

I've read comment here and here http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_kc910_renoir-reviews-2495.php.
The comment here make me feel like changing my omnia to renoir but the comment on the other side makes me doubt...
Does the phone really spoil so easily like the speaker will burst and the photo taken really only 1.4-1.8mb??
The video cam after sometime will lag??
The inner screen will break after usage of sometime?
I've use viewty before but sold it away due to no camera lens cover and the leather casing that protect it never comes to singapore...
Viewty camera was ok but photo taken always seems pale but video recording was very good. For renoir the picture is nice but the color seems very yellow.
So i can't really decide to change or not.. any suggestion??

VenomRJF, 27 Nov 2008Hi,
No problem... very glad to help :)
The latch is v... moreHey Venom,
I was able to check some videos online on youtube, and just as you stated, the latch looks incredibly flimsy. It kind of just sticks out...I suppose with daily use inside a pocket it's bound to break of real soon right? Quite disappointing as this phone has basically everything I want =(
I'll have to decide whether having a phone with a high probability of a broken latch is still worth it.
I also saw that the screen responsiveness wasn't that great either, but I didn't expect it to be silky smooth.
Thank you for all your input, it's been a great help.
By the way, I suggest you contact LG again and see if they can assist you now with those issues you were experiencing in your earlier posts. They may have just got lazy and decided not to contact you back. Hope everything goes well.
Take Care.

Anonymous, 26 Nov 2008Hi Venom,
Thank you very much for the information, all y... moreHi,
No problem... very glad to help :)
The latch is very flimsy. I charge my phone every night and am pretty sure that one of these days the latch is just going to fall off as it's just a bit of plastic. I could be wrong - but I don't normally care about these sort of things so I'm guessing that it's going to be a major issue for someone like yourself - especially seeing as you'll be using it as a music player quite a lot. A case would help either, as the latch just hangs there in the way, once you've revealed the LG USB port. I don't have a case... I just use the screen protector that came with the phone.
The phone is OK... widely available now too. Might be worth checking out the latch in person first just to ease your mind once and for all.
You're right about LG's support. It's non-existent at the moment and I hate them for it.

VenomRJF, 26 Nov 2008Hi,
I've had this phone for nearly 3 weeks now and here ... moreHi Venom,
Thank you very much for the information, all your posts have been very informative.
Really hard to make a decision as this phone looks great but there are quite a few other contenders with this phone that look just as good. The LG brand and their support doesn't exactly have a great reputation either.
It's a shame this phone didn't come with a 3.5mm jack built in. How flimsy is the latch for the connector? I'm fairly concerned as I do listen to music alot when I'm on the go and usually put my music player in my jean pocket. I presume if I listen to music everyday it might be a problem and the latch might break? Do you have / is there a case for your phone that might help protect the phone and the latch when in use?
On the plus side it's great to hear that the music adaptor clicks when plugged in, doesn't sound like it'll be a problem.
Thank you very much,

Hi,
I've had this phone for nearly 3 weeks now and here are my thoughts on your questions:
1. The screen is nice and bright enough in the sun to use. I personally have not had an issue using it out and about. It's certainly no worse that any phone I've ever had.
2. Yes I would say that the headphone jack adaptor plugs in firmly. But it's placed in a really strange place on the side. I find that this simply does not fit into the pocket as comfortably as it could. It would have been better to have it at the top or at the bottom. The most annoying thing about it is the flap to get to the connector. It's very flimsy and I'm always afraid that it will just fall off in time. The LG Viewty had a nice sliding flap to access the connector. It's a real shame that they did not go for the same design. Getting back to the connection... there's a noticeable click when the adaptor is connected so I think you'll find it OK.
3. The camera is simply awesome. I'm not a professional photographer - but I do live in the real world and use the camera in pubs and clubs to great effect. The Xenon flash is absolutely fine for poorly lit conditions.
If you are considering this phone then please take a look at some of my other posts on this forum. I hope it helps you make a decision either way. It's a good phone - but it's not perfect. LG are rubbish at supporting it. They've yet to get back in touch with me about some issues I'm experiencing.
Feel free to ask more questions :)

For somebody who owns the phone, had a couple of questions as I'm really interested in this phone.
- How is the screen visibility under direct sunlight? I know in this preview it states that it suffers a bit, but bad is it really?
- For listening to music, the Renoir has a proprietary cable with a 3.5mm jack adaptor correct? When the proprietary cable is plugged into the Renoir, does it feel like it's firmly plugged in? I had some phones in the past where eventually after a couple months of use the cable has some play and isn't firm anymore which results in the cable sometimes coming loose and disconnecting or having some static because it is not "fully plugged in".
- Xenon flash. In the 8 megapix shootout, when shooting a picture in a dark setting, the Renoir performed quite poorly. Not doubting gsmarena but just would like to have the opinion of somebody else who owns the phone.
Hope to hear from somebody soon!
Thanks,

I have not managed to find a way of deleting apps and features embedded in the phone's firmware.
You are stuck with what's on the phone - which I find so stupid. Internet links that they have are totally pointless to me and you can't even delete them.

Hi Spidey,
I completely agree with you - which is the reason why I've gone with the Renoir. It will do for another year - till Apple sorts out their iPhone. I've got an iPod Touch and the interface is awesome. Application support is also a huge deal for Apple.
Take a look on YouTube for the reviews on the T-Mobile G1. I have a feeling that the next generation of phones that use the Android platform is going to seriously make Apple change their game plan. It's very impressive. One reviewer clearly stated that the G1 is not the phone that he wants... but the features and support is phenomenal and justifies it. It's interesting.
Cheers :)

Thanks again and again. :)
Actually i do not really understand what it is so good about Iphone.
My friend own it and i played with it before. It has got a lot of applications, games and i should say almost unlimited. The touch responsive is superb with multi-touch and biggest screen.
But Camera too weak and cannot record video.
Battery life is average or below.
Cannot make video call.
And extremely EXPENSIVE -_-"
Maybe it is a heavenly great gadget for everyone else but definitely not me.
Anyway, thanks again hehe...

Spidey

Hi Spidey,
Reading files from external memory is fine. I haven't filled my 8GB card up - but I do have a lot of MP3's on the phone and it only takes a second to read them all. Not sure where you can get a leather case for the Renoir. One wasn't supplied in the box - though you do get a screen-protector, which is quite nice. No fears of scratching the screen :)
I was also looking at getting the INNOV8. I played around with one for a few minutes. It's a BIG phone... and if you don't mind that then it's a pretty good phone to have. I would have loved it for the Symbian OS, as I'm desperately missing it. It's just so much more better thought out than the OS on the LG. In the end, it was the touch-screen that won it for the LG. Remember... it's NO iPhone interface. If you keep that in mind then you'll be fine.
Good luck... hope you make the right choice :)

VenomRJF, 19 Nov 2008Hi Spidey,
Are you talking about choosing an audio file ... moreHi Venom,
Thanks! Sorry, what i mean is when we go to mp3, then external data then go to the view the mp3 files or other files on memory card. Is that slow? I am getting my new phone either this week or next.
But now am struggling to choose between Renoir or Innov8.
Pretty stuck up now. -_-"
Btw, where can we get the leather case for Renoir?
It is not come with the phone rite?
Thanks,

Hi Spidey,
Are you talking about choosing an audio file to play on the phone? If so then that's rubbish. It's instant, pretty much.
If you're talking about transferring an audio file to the phone then yes, this does take a little longer. Included in the phone is something called LG PC Suite. It's a PC software that manages your phone allowing you to transfer files to and from the phone. In my opinion, the software is very clunky and slow. I have been using the phone as a "mass storage" device via USB and I find that files transfer a hell of a lot quicker doing it this way... depending on how big the file is of course. But an audio track 5MB in size does not take a minute to transfer... it's way under that. So I think it's rubbish.
The round thing under the xenon flash is an auto-focus lamp. When you half-press the shutter button, an Orange beam comes from this lamp to assess the lighting conditions of the scene you are trying to take a picture of. Most digital cameras have this feature. It does not help shooting video in the dark - I just tried :)

Is me spidey again. Have another question.
I have seen some user review saying that the file loading for audio file is a bit too slow (around 1 minute).
Is that true?
Is the round thing under the xenon flash a LED light? It is for night video shooting rite?
Thanks in advance!

Hi again Tess...
I've just tried the snooze function and can confirm that it works by pressing the middle button on the face of the phone. When doing this a box will come up on the screen saying snooze and the amount of time that you've set snooze for (5mins).
Be careful not to press the button on the right (Red one) as this will turn the alarm off for good. Perhaps this is what you're doing(?)
Hope this has helped you out :)
