Definitely not, from what I can see on early reviews on Xiaomi 17 Pro series, the camera definitely seems to be better at handling bright light sources as well as at maintaining the overall atmosphere when the scene is warmly lit. It's simply that the 15 series' HDR was way too reluctant to get triggered to begin with, and even when it did get activated, it wasn't just doing enough to properly recover highlights.

I really like to see a mode in which I can take a picture without any Leica processing/filter.
Anyway, go to in Camera app/settings/Metering and choose Medium instead of Face. I've seen a great reduction in lights being blown out

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2025Where's the apple car that xiaomi copied? A Xiaomi was saying Xiaomi was disappointed when Apple cancelled their car project. These guys were waiting to copy the innovations by Apple and now are stuck with just normal cars without any iPhone level innovation they could copy from Apple.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is experiencing freezing and lagging issues, many users in China are complaining because this suggests that Xiaomi is trying to rush the product launch without checking the quality and optimization. Many people have returned the product, and will have to wait until the international version is released to see if the company can fix it.

Aierlan, 18 Oct 2025There are always ads in Chinese Xiaomi devices and this is ... moreThere are ads also in European devices, even if they cost 800+€. Disabling them is a hit & miss - some can't be disabled, others reappear periodically, others go away forever. The bigger problem however is the Xiaomi Software - camera and gallery apps are terribly slow on some of their devices, causing waiting times between capturing a photo, viewing it and then editing/cropping. We in Europe would not tolerate camera phones, which can't instantly capture, show and edit photos.

Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max were launched in China last month, featuring a 2.1-inch secondary display on the back that surrounds the rear camera setup. This distinctive Dynamic Back Display shows different notifications and a preview of selfies. Now, Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing has reportedly confirmed that the company plans to retain this feature in future flagship models. Xiaomi is also said to be ramping up its Research and Development efforts to enhance the functionality of this rear screen with new software features.

I wonder if Xiaomi managed to fix the AWB problem on the 15 series' cameras. Xiaomi 15 Ultra in particular was notorious for "bleaching" a scene illuminated by warm light sources and making everything look very sterile. It was also blowing out strong light sources in a very unnatural way (Amber lights get clipped to white, bright midtone details are all smoothened out thanks to bad tonemapping), but so far in these samples, I'm not seeing these traits. Let's hope that Xiaomi finally managed to get these bits right because their detail processing has always been very decent.

Remember when they made photos from all other devices look less in quality when viewed on the iPhone so iPhone users believe that the iPhone is far superior?
Xiaomi is in my opinion the brand that will wipe the floor with both Apple and Samsung and a decent price (not overpaying for less specs and features)
I like their business model to give everyone and apple look and feel with great power under the hood and giving people the best of both worlds.
