Honor AI is absolutely atrocious in the camera. It makes people farther away look like absolute wax dolls.

Oilpainting, 19 Jan 2026"There's no AI shenanigans on the ultrawide"... moreIt will depend on the capture criteria- any phone or camera can have the sensor 'tripped up'; low light is an easy example.. higher ISO speeds do not leave an easy time for a clean up algorithm to make a sharp nice contrast shot.
When the processor applies 'standard processing' to a 'slow lens X small sensor X high iso' capture, even without AI tools - the final product will become a hodge podge of lost potential.
To be fair the 13mm wide angle is typically useful for landscape shots and generally they are done during good lighting situations.
Again, anyone can take a sample shot that pushes a system beyond breaking point.
For example I have taken indoor shots using the 13mm lens during early morning times (sunrise 'about to happen' and the low light isn't the issue anywhere near the 'distortion' on objects located near edge of frame..
Judging the capabilities of any modern camera system based on the 'wide angle lens' (in less than ideal situations) is silly,..
No one may care to argue the 'truth' in the statement.. but qualifying that a large body camera with a lens worth the same amount as the phone costs, 'might' take a better shot, is a pretty cood clarifier.
Extreme Wide Angle photos are best done on full frame cameras.
If anyone finds a 'fast wide angle lens' that doesn't distort tthe corners too much, maybe look at the dimensions of that lens!; (it will be huge!!)
For a pocket camera- wide angle might prove useful to capture a large group photo where we don't have time or space to run back far enough to 'get the shot'- in which case simply getting the shot is awesome.. (most don't carry a full frame paired with a wide angle lens 'ready to go' on them!)

Shamrock Sean, 20 Jan 2026I've uninstalled many apps from my Honor phone. There ... moreThey do come with a stack of software, but the software is small sized, and generally the apps users want.. (ie a great calculator/calendar and email app)..
I find their apps much better than the Google equivalents.. (and they don't require crazy hardware permissions granted!)
Uninstalling whatever a user doesn't wish to use is easy, but their isn't much 'bloat'; the apps are actually software we expect computers to ship with- a full package like when we find a perfect Out of the box Linux distro!
The included apps don't require weekly updates (eek Google!)
And are better laid out and use less network (no network!).
Honor make a superlative product when compared to 'the big three' market players.
I will not switch back to any of the big dogs anytime soon.. every aspect of the Honor phones are better thought out.. they DO NOT PLAY spec sheet bragging rights games.. eg screen diagonal measurement!
An easy metric to make more impressive (make the phone more rectangular)= phones that no longer work well in users hands- eg a 'bigger screen diagonal that is actually a 'smaller screen' where the keyboard is too thin to use in portraiture mode!; making products that use the best tech available is what Honor seem to be doing.
I always freak out with battery measurements.. as someone who has read a lot about battery design.. building batteries that look good on a spec sheet vs batteries that work well infield (with long service lifetimes and useful recharge cycles!) isn't in line with 'biggest quotable numbers for the spec sheet'.. when manufacturers push back against market trends to actually build better products = a 'win' for consumers..
But we have to educate ourselves. (Most will not; and 'spec sheet warfare' wins out for the masses!)

Ryan47, 17 Jan 2026£900 with a free tablet and charger off honor UK site for 5... moreCheers Ryan, "nailed it"
As an Honor phone user, the upgrade from Magic OS9 to Magic OS10 brought some significant improvements to the bitrate capture used in videos.
This was the biggest weakness..
Using external camera apps I had tested capture at 100mbps and the few errors I found with video recording (HDR camera pans) were mostly rectified.
The colour profiile used across different sensors still sticks out.. (and I do love the Natural LUT recording mode, but that is main sensor only)..
Given the strengths in their lens/sensor/CPU - the software, given 'seven years of updates' will only get better.
The only issue I have with the Honor software is the mouse support in desktop mode (hooked up to a monitor); set way too fast and not polled frequently enough.
Have sent emails off to Honor HQ regarding both the video bitrate used on HDR recordings (changes implemented; 'better') and the desktop software.. (mouse).. And their helpdesk ACTUALLY responds.. ("appropriate teams informed" etc).
Very impressed with Honor..
Their low reflectivity screens and hardware eye care implementations and AI aerial control (figures out if a user is blocking antennas with their fingers and switches to other aerials) is top tier for end users.
Honor are softly spoken- they underpromise and over deliver..
Staff following the companies split from parent company to 'build better phones for humans' is exactly what they do.
Pro consumer with seven years of updates and a 'reduce e waste' philosophy' it is evident they use updates to improve equipment (I could speak volumes about how other major phone companies use updates to break phones 'just out of warranty to force users' forward!).
Honor are a fantastic hardware supplier, and are pro planet/pro consumer.
The small stuff they nail that doesn't even make the spec sheet is what makes them the most Apple in an Android ecosystem.. (oh and they allow easy xfer to Apple devices etc!!)
Kudos Honor!

They broke away from Huawei and some Huawei employees moved over to Honor. But they aren't the same company anymore and using same brand under a ban wouldn't be allowed. Stop speculating

£900 with a free tablet and charger off honor UK site for 512gb of storage.
Let's talk about what honor do right that others are behind, the 3D face id is fantastic, the speakers are amazing and the best available and the screens are very high quality and bright with good eye protection, also they use the top end processor and stability is good.
They give a full 512gb of storage as standard.
The software is just ok,it has got better every year and android 16 on my magic 7 pro is working good.
Where honor are struggling is camera and video software, the hardware is there that's for certain and they haven't cut costs, but the camera and video software needs work it's not consistent and let's the side down and gives a poor value

Currently this phone goes for 1299 Euro with some cheap tablet, which is quite ridiculous. All the main rivals (Oppo, Samsung and Vivo) are 200 - 300 Euro cheaper.
Idk what Honor thinking, its unsalable. Once phones hits 1000k Euro, it might be a valud option, untill than...

I agree with your observations. I've been using Huawei and Honor phones for years and they're essentially the same devices just rebadged for markets outside of China.
MagicOS is seems outdated and you can see elements of EMUI in various levels of MagicOS. I've tried to get on with Honor devices but the software is poor.
Before anyone comes at me and says that I don't know what I'm taking about I've used Honor phones since the Honor 6 (not Magic 6 Pro) was released in 2014 and my last Huawei device was the Huawei P30 Pro.
I am currently using a Global Honor Magic 8 Pro and my last Honor device was the Honor V5.
