Nokia 5800 XpressMusic review: Young as you feel

14 January 2009
It's touchscreen o'clock for Nokia and the stage is set for the 5800 XpressMusic. Go ahead and touch it. We did and we've got a story to tell. Now, it's technically not the first time Nokia get their hands dirty with touch screens, but it sure feels they really mean business this time. For Nokia 5800 is not the only story here...

Disappointed Custome, 20 Apr 2010Defective Nokia 5800 Phone. Purchased from Nokia online... moreNo offense but that is a childish way of looking at things. Just because you were one of the unlucky souls that happened to get that defective 0.1% from the 10.000 pieces doesn't make the manufacturer guilty. It's just the rules of chance. So many factors come into play that you can get a new anything, right out of the box and it won't work. For example, there's a company in the US (I forgot their name) which makes cheap, new, with warranty 17' LCDs but after 6-8 months most of the LCDs don't power up. The hardware is fine : it's a programming bug that makes the power button useless and so, the monitor remains powered down.
The same goes with your phone. Treat it as a PC : hardware-wise, there's nothing wrong with it. Software wise (and this is where the human-element comes in, meaning mistakes), it's still an operating system by all means and it can fail.

I bought a Nokia 5800 Xpress music today - but I am getting conflicting guidelines as regards the first battery charge. Will some knowledgeable and generous soul give me a few minutes of your time and let me know the first batt charge routine. I am so anxious to get my phone going.

kind regards and thanks in advance.

                  Defective Nokia 5800 Phone.

Purchased from Nokia online USA February 2010. Phone worked for 1 month, then began experiencing freezing, restarts and complete failure. Now 2 months old, the phone freezes and attempts to restart every 15 minutes. Memory card formating, hard rest, and software updates do not resolve the problem.

Nokia support is slow. 2-3 business days for responses and decision for repairs. I have been waiting for one week for a repair authorization.

In my opinion, Nokia cannot manufacture "smart phones." Their entire "high end" products have poor software and hardware engineering. After being a long time Nokia customer, the current Nokia brand and Nokia 5800 have been a disappointment, and they have lost me as a customer. My recommendation: do not purchase Symbian 60 type phones or any Nokia "smart phone", they are not reliable, and remember, you get what you pay for in software/hardware quality

But i think this phone is cheaper than HTC and SE X1 its only 2700 dollar and with the firmware upgrade i think there is no problem with this phone.

well NOKIA one of the most successful companies when it comes 2 cell,i was eagerly waitin for a touchscreen phone frm dem,but 5800 izz a mockery on their brand,a desperate attempt 2 run in the iphone killer race, the phone feels like a plastic toy all wobbly and all,the worst part izz it has a real bad resistive touch screen(one has 2 tap twice 2 select all stuff,,,,,,,,,pathetic!)above its accelerometer respond in an odd fashion,,turning left when u turn right,,,,,,,,,,lol,,,,,,the music quality is jst average,,,,,,,so much for a music phone!
the cool image of 5800 (in the batman movie),,iz jst a dream!............stay away frm dis phone,,,,,,,and if u r still desperate,,,,,,,,u can go for the nokia 5230 or 5233,,,,,( iz the same phone only a bit downgraded,,,and dead cheap dan 5800)

                                      hi there,

i bought this phone last December 2009, I'm very disappointed to this phone, i already repair it three times within the month of January 2010, first is the unresponsive of touch features, then the camera is not working and lastly the 8gb sd card was corrupted and they replace it after more than 2 weeks here at Nokia Alabang(atc) in Philippines. all cases where brought at the same Nokia Center. now nokia maps is not working and always " general system error" appear. also i noticed that there is no "mark several" for easy copying or moving of files compare to other brand like Samsung or Ericsson. my phone is updated to latest firmware available in the market. it always hang and need to remove first the memory card before turning it on. on music player, even though i already deleted the file, it still still remain inside the player. cannot remove it anymore. please anyone out there who can really help me. you can text me at +639179147820
