Samsung i8910 Omnia HD preview: First look

16 February 2009
Now that's a big one - the handset with one of the longest spec sheets we've ever seen has just dropped on us like a bomb. The Omnia HD is Samsung's go at touch-taming the Symbian S60 and is introducing truly revolutionary stuff...

I am a hobby photographer and I am using nikon d70 for 6yrs, hp512 ipaq messenger for 3yrs and I just want to share my experience with i8910.
My review:
*Camera-video:this is good for a mobile phone
*Camera-picture:good for a mobile phone, i like the features like panorama ...
*Video-it can play my mp4 and avi files with very good video quality but the sound is not loud, I can't hear the conversations when in the bus wearing headset.
*It's getting hot when you leave any application open, like a computer with processor.
*SMS: slow in processing
*Searching: slow processing
*Call: cannot use headset because mic is not functioning when a headset is plugged in.
*Touchscreen: my first touchscreen phone and satisfied with it

Yes the i8910 is a bit buggy and the video recording is poor. Also the camera is slow but takes brilliant pictures. My friends were impressed by the pictures taken by me and they thought i am taking some courses for photography. The touch screen is great in terms of responsiveness. And with 8mega pixel you get really sharp pictures.

Could anyone tell me what the theme used in this review is? I like the look of it, would compliment my omnia HD very nicely :)

hey-the phone is great.but noone-and that includes the people that put together this review...seems to care about i8910`s compatability towards headsets (earbells) that can function as handsfree as well, i.e. bose mobile on-ear solution (with answer button and bulit in microphones that lets you take calls while listening to music), or nokias bluetooth stereo headset bh-905 with similar possibilities.and even samsung doesnt seem to care to chech out this.why???why???

i can only warn everyone to buy this phone ...alot of problems appeared which u can read in the forums online all over the place

one of the biggest problems is the bad bad AMR recording codec which basically produces video sound out of a sewer ..but to anyone who likes your videos being recorded that way should go and pay 600 euro for it

The images taken by that camera are pretty bad quality. I would have expected better from an 8mp camera, but then again # of megapixels is overrated and a marketing gimmick for less than sophisticated users.

Hi dont be so sure Simbian isnt so bad it depend how they will use it on model.
Reson for me to have Omnia is beacause like smart phone>omnia interfese is iresistable>made to cover as much as posible windows.
Dont worry its my opinion WM is not so great and never been for me so if Samsung do their job as good as here (over WM) probably Omnia HD will be good too (sould be because of thet I buy Omnia breavly never had WM devise) Wink
Curent model look much better than new HD. Feel free to share your views with me at http://www.Samsung-OmniaHD.org that's where all the omnia HD GUys hangout

What I still don't get is, why doesn't Samsung and Apple work together for once? Apple uses lots of samsung chips (and products) for the apple products. Samsung has really nice phones, designs, specs, etc, but iphone might have less inferior camera, pixels, etc. imagine a OmniaHD, with apple software on it!!! A sexy phone with the best specs availabe, and a phone with the best software available! that will be a unbeatable powerhouse!

Just spoke to Orange UK, they have the Omnia HD and are testing at the moment. They hope to release to public in a matter of days providing all tests are positive & no major problems arise! Cannot wait for it to be released....this time next week i could have it in my hands.....!!!!!!!!

I m nokia fun, and i used most of Nseries family as N70me,N72,N73ME,N78,N82,N91,N93i,N95 8GB. Now i m using N95 8GB, but its a sad matter that new up coming all nseries feture and specification is same as N95. I means there are no vital chance. So i cant choice new mobile, N96,N85,N79 all are new,but performance is not best. I think nokia is gone dawn. Its sad matter. So,i think that i will change my Brand. Bcz N86,N97 is old perform, N97 5mg pixel, not upgrade proccesor. I saw that Samsung i8510 INNOV8, OMNIA HD, is the best position in the market with best camera and video. So my next choice is OMNIA HD. Realy samsung do good job.

you mentioned in the review that the gps software would be route 66 but i think that the software is garmin-based. you can also download the maps for it for free on the producer's site.
