the sound recording quality sucks on the samsung s8300, much like the samsung pixon,
its such a shame because the phone has a decent camera and decent video recording capabilitys

I think that this phone could seriously dent the success of the N97.

Anonymous, 19 Feb 2009dude you have no idea what you are talking about
the video... moreI can assure you it's AMR-NB @ 13kbps, it can be read incorrectly as 128kbps if you are using an outdated decoder.
The P often used in '720p' refers to it being of progressive scan as apposed to being interlaced - I presume this is what you're referring to and yes it is better quality but if you could show me a phone which records video that is interlaced that would be great.
Hopefully it won't be too long before someone records more video so we can see if the syncing problem isn't present in this phone.

Anonymous, 19 Feb 2009That's what you don't understand... The Samsung Innov8 (i85... moredude you have no idea what you are talking about
the video is up to 7mb/s and the audio is 128kb not 17kb... what are you smoking
plus the final isn't even released yet, they will fix everything and even if they didnt did you see same clip i did or what? this phone video quality beats every other phone in the market by miles, who cares if its not 100% smooth? i'll still buy it
it records in 1280x720p30 its P which means you can take screen grabs from it on your pc without losing any quality

That's what you don't understand... The Samsung Innov8 (i8510) has been out for a very long time and still suffers from the issues I mentioned. If they can't fix that what makes you think this will be any different.
If you've ever used video recording on Nokia N95, E90, N82 etc the video is silky smooth and no lip sync problem.
It's nothing to do with 22FPS. 22FPS is quite smooth. The video is very jerky, worse than 15FPS recorded videos from many SE handsets.
Samsung is a newbie when it comes to user experience. iPhone (which I don't like) and Nokia got it right even though specs not as good as Samsung.

Hey all, this is just a pre release handset. that means it's not yet complete so it's usual to see some mistakes like 22fps and that.

This is typical Samsung. Lots of GIMMICK!
The INNOV8 has exactly the same problem and hasn't been fixed yet since it's release. Only Nokia can record smooth video. The INNOV8 still suffers from smooth video and doesn't even lip sync with sound. So when someone is speaking you can clearly see it is out of sync.
Samsung only know how to show off with specs but the experience you'll get is terrible.

After looking at both videos the cars do seem to jerk, hopefully a small software problem - the videos play at 24FPS but is actually recorded at 22 something - possible because it can't capture 24 frames fast enough? The minimum is set to 4.8 and maximum 24.
Carrying on from the FPS, it seems as though a lot of the software has been borrowed through the Samsung INNOV8 and Pixon. Both the INNOV8 and Pixon are known to record audio which results in the quality being 'garbled' if there's a lot of background noise (for example, in a car, crowded area etc.) this is identified by the audio codec used to encode the audio which is AMR-NB (Adaptive multi-rate compression, narrow band) which is a speech codec (At 13kbps 8kHz the same used for voice calls on GSM and UMTS.
I'm not sure why this is used for recording high quality video but is something that needs to be fixed. For comparison my old Samsung E serious recorded poor video quality records (15FPS, QVGA with low bitrates) with AAC-LC encoded audio at 32kbps which was great, although higher would always be better.
Long post I know but in conclusion - hopefully this is fixed or else i'll be putting off the i8910 until it is fixed, why combine high quality 720p video with audio meant for 'low quality' voice calls meant to not strain a telephone network?
If anyone can help forward this to Samsung it'd be great and hopefully fix the problems with the Pixon and INNOV8 in a firmware update.

Perfect portfolio by Samsung, almost complete.
The most important is: Samsung bring us the final unit, not only the prototype like other brand.
