Web browsing is fidly, my nokia 5800 has flash and can access parts of web pages for text input g1 cannot. Found I could not see all text even in fit to screen option when writing this even. This phone feels not finished for release, beta test standard, enen with latest firmware. Great phone briliant os, but did they run out of cash to finish project? It has potential to beat iphone or similar. Build quality is better than stated. Battery life like an hour browsing now that's lame. Pass over my 5800 until some firmware updates resolve issues like flash, video recording, multi formats like avi and java emulation with 3d support. 7 outta 10 for effort. Android os will be big though best interface ever seen.

The G1 does not really seem to excel at anything....
The camera is crap....shutter lag is 3 seconds...
If you don't
lock your screen after every use you will call random contacts....
Every demo model is the stores have the screens broke off....hummm
Jailbreak is cool...did it...still couldn't get wifi tether to work.
GPS and map features are great....except was slow to get a fix even
outside....my streets and trips on my laptop is much faster and accurate...However the most frustrating fact is that it loses the fact its a phone..voice mail using the touchscreen dial pad is maddening... I log 2800-3000 minutes a month and I am a gadget freak however 1st its got to be usable as a phone everything else is second.

What the heck?! Why no video recording? They're shooting themselves in the foot like apple did with the iphone. I know that everyone wants to be like apple, but this is jus crazee!

I had to return my phone for a different one - the show stopper for me was that it does not have sync with outlook ONLY GMAIL. As a banker, I can't take my contacts out over the web so outlook sync required. other than that... great phone, but outlook sync was a dealbreaker for me.

Rich P4U, 21 Mar 2009I think the phone is awesome, yeah it might be a bit big, b... moredude you can improve the iphone as well with applications only thing is the extra step of jailbreak in order to achieve this but same goes for g1 if you want multi touch pretty even now

So, no mention of an add-on flash player for the browser in the tweaks section? Does anyone know if there's anything in the Market for this, as I'm thinking of getting an HTC Magic later this year.

I think the phone is awesome, yeah it might be a bit big, but the features are fantastic, the reason for me saying that, it constently get new applications, when it first came out, it ciuldn't do video, now it can with an aplication you download, they're even developing a full on satnav with voice communication with it. i think it will beat the i-phone and future, because you can add features that improve the phone.

The phone has Bluetooth, but like Apple's iPhone, you can't use an external Bluetooth keyboard with it (yet). Good to see that Nokia provides this capability, though. Here's hoping that the Cupcake update addresses this shortfall.
One other problem: you can't buy this phone unlocked (at least officially).

@ christov
U sound like someone who has never really used the phone. The sliding mechanism is very solid. I have 'owned' the g1 since 10/21/08 and I have had no mechanical problems with the phone. Yea it could be a little sexier but it is actually a great device. If you've actual used it the touch screen on this thing is only bested by the iphone and that's only slightly. The web browser is amazing and android is getting more mature by the day. Battery life could be better but so could the iphone's. Pretty good review you guys (albeit a little late) the g1 is not perfect but its far from being the horrible device some ppl make it out 2 be

Had great expectation from HTC and Google on this one.
Nut they let a lot of folks down.
Have you tried the sliding mechanism? The main hinge is exposed!
Horrible build quality as far as I'm concerned and thats a no go area for me.
Seond nevertheless.
