Samsung B7610 OmniaPRO preview: First look

20 July 2009
Samsung are not quite the standard-setter in communicator devices but are obviously keen to have their say. Playing catch up seems well in order for a debut but we guess someone here is set to play for keeps. The Samsung B7610 OmniaPRO is a generously spec’d device that’s poised to tackle the best in the class and even raise the bet...

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2009Samsung sure have messed up their phone naming...the B-seri... moreYou must understand that Samsung use a different method to categorise its smartphones. The big brand for its smartphones is the OMNIA. This brand conclude 4 (until now) series:

OMNIA series: winmo smartphones with touchscreen only (i900 Omnia, i8000 Omnia 2)(for Omnia series Samsung will launch one more model every year)
OMNIA PRO series: winmo smartphones with touchscreen and (slider) qwerty(B7610 Omnia Pro, B7320)(into 2010 samsung will launch 2 models for Omnia Pro series with slider qwerty and maybe one with simple qwerty, and then one more model every year)
OMNIA LITE series: winmo smartphones cheaper from the other two series(Samsung will launch at least one model for OmniaLite series every year)
OMNIA HD series: symbian smartphones (Samsung want to make 2 new big brands like OMNIA (which is mainly for winmo models), one for Symbian and one for Android smartphones)

This is the phone I've been waiting for.

Finally I can replace the iPhone with a proper smartphone. I'm fed up with the iPhone's lack of functionality and Apple relying on it's fashion status to cover this lack.

Anyone know when we can expect this in the UK and who will carry it?

I really can't understand Gsmarena's review..."We are pretty certain that the B7610 OmniaPRO won't sell as much as the Touch Pro2, if only for the larger fan mass that HTC have among WinMo use." I am just wondering why they are so sure?At least for users that take a little bit more care about characteristics, Omnia is for sure the choice. Let me write down what PRO has better over TouchPro2:
          -AMOLED screen
          -20 grams lighter
          -smaller
          -3.5 mm audio jack
          -DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine)
          -5MP camera (over 3.15 MP of TP2)
-VGA Video Recording @30fps and 2Mbps bitrate (over VGA @15fps and 0,7Mbps of TP2)
          -Geotagging
          -800 MHz processor (over 528Mhz)
          -Dedicated graphics accelerator
-DivX and Xvid out of the box
-Radio with RDS (TP2 radio is locked)
          -DLNA

          TP2 over OmniaPro:
-288 MB of ram (OmniaPro has 256 MB)
-Hsdpa 7,2 Mbps (OmniaPro has 3,6 Mbps)(i doubt it really makes a difference)
          - Touch-sensitive zoom bar
          -Tilting screen

The Jet's screen isn't capacitive, it's also resistive. Correction.

Sounds like they are rechristening the B-series as their slider QWERTY line.

Doesn't look ugly to me. Especially with that huge screen and a button layout that looks like a cheeky smile. GSMarena, are the small un-fingerfriendly icons still plague this phone in some menus?

6.5 is just a cosmetic enhancement (albeit a greatly needed cosmetic enhancement), so it doesn't address any of the fundimental flaws in WiMo's design. It looks like 7.0 is the earliest we can expect to see fixes for things like the 65k colour limitation and lack of capacitive touch.

annon: the hardware is a 16M-color screen however winmo 6.1 will only support up to 65k colors. hopefully winmo 6.5 will support 16M colors.

Z: thank you for letting us know a five megapixel camera will not beat your DSLR. i call troll
