BlackBerry Storm2 9520 review: Back in Black... Berry

08 January 2010
RIM are a company with style and simply hopping on the touchscreen bandwagon with another iPhone wannabe just wouldn't suit them. They certainly realized the importance of having a full-touch device in their portfolio but wanted a clear and legible BlackBerry imprint on it...

owned the blackberry 9550 storm 2 , and this storm series (storm 1 and storm 2 lineup) seems to be the worst bb series ever made . i quickly moved to samsung vibrant and im glad i did that . the bb storm 1 and storm 2 touch screens are a pain to use , you actually have to press the screen to assign a command , the mp3 player is having bugs even when updated to the latest version , no multi touch for multi media or web browser , and the swipe for pictures in the gallery seems to be unresponsive at some points , the mp3 player is loud and clear same for video quality and loudness which is the only plus point in this phone , however even after updating to the latest version the mp3 player got bugs all over it . i see a black line blinking on the background of the mp3 player seek bar whenever i'm playing music . the web browser is bad it takes some more seconds than any other phones web browser to zoom in when you double tap a page (this is same with a picture) , and the worst part is it takes like 1 - 4 min to load a complete html web page like yahoo or msn , funny thing is if your viewing a wap site on it it loads quicker . the gallery got no option to create new folders for videos and pictures , everything you add to the gallery are shown in one single location like a mixed salad . the phone is large sometimes to access and do some stuff you have to hold the phone with both your hands but its a waste of time since you really dont have to use a phone with your two hands when it got no multi touch capabilities at all . the main menu seems to be excellent with cool icons and when you go inside a shortcut all those classic bb style menus and lists appear so there wont be any eye candy for you . the phones 3.5 mm jack only supports bb headsets only you cant use any other headset model with it because those will give you some bad noises when listening to music , but you can use a normal 3.5 mm headset without the microphone so that it will work fine , i suggest you take this phone to your hand and play with it for 20 mins to actually see if you really like this phone , because it was a nightmare for me to use it for the past month . being introduced as a very few bb touch screen devices its a shame to know that the storm series wont be getting the bb os 6 which means all bb storm owners are stuck in bb os 5 . i am so glad i brought my samsung galaxy s vibrant after selling this phone .

A very detailed review covering almost all the aspects to the rock bottom. Gave me a very good idea about the product.

love this phone. gets a lot of flack for some reason but i think it's much better than the first. better touch screen, better email app, better internet. not a big fan of the camera and texting but overall i like the feel of the phone, it's more responsive, it's more practical. I got 2 off of gsmauthority.com and one off of puremobile. very happy with my purchase i give it 8 out of 10 stars for sure.

I have the Storm 2 and the most disappointing aspect of this phone is, it is unabale to utilise "compass" which was great app with the old storm.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is also equipped with a standard microUSB port that is enabled for both data connections and charging. You can even use the handset as a tethered modem.

Nice phone and I'm deciding between this and the 9700 Bold.

Got it for a couple weeks now, unable to load Garmin Software which i prefer had it on my Nokia N82 and it worked perfectly, any other GPS software out there for smartphones sux, the rest of the phone's ok, hate the touchscreen, nothing near the iPhone if it was the same i'd give this phone 2 thumbs up, however being a touch screen defeats the objective, simply hate the clicking screen that acts like a huge button, can becoming annoying when one's typing a text message and the world around you wants to know where's the typewriter sound coming from whoever came up with this @ RIM must've loved the old typewriters this is retrogressing Blackberry, 1 step forward and 10 back. Final Say IT AIN'T WORTH IT!!

This phone has now been discontinued on Vodafone UK, Blackberry have discontinued the handset according to Vodaphone which were due stock but received a email form Blackberry stating its been scrapped.

I was on my 3rd set of this Storm 2 completely useless, kept dropping calls at 30 seconds, freezing screen complete failure. Vodafone did say to me the Handsets that were made in Hungary were causing a lot of problems. I tried firmware updates to no avail. Glad its been scrapped
