Motorola MILESTONE review: Hello Droid

26 January 2010
Android devices come from all walks of life but rarely do they carry as much baggage as the MILESTONE. Motorola seem to be betting the farm with the MILESTONE and the warm reception it’s getting must leave them breathing a sigh of relief...

Is that more than the 52.4 million Symbian phones sold by Nokia alone?
Do you know that the number will get even larger when the sales by Samsung and SE are added?
Stop talking about things you don't understand.

          Android has slapped Symbiam HARD........

Milestone has reached 1.6 million sales in US and Europe.Which may no be that high but still too much for a company going in serious loss.

          MotoROI
          Shadow
          CLIQ (100,000+ international sales)
          BackFlip
and other XTxxx Series sure indicate Motorola is going to make money.

          Hello Moto

This almost nearly as good as the Samsung Omnia 2
Pity it has music quality or Radio and such a reduced quality video camera. It loses far too many points at multimedia sector and the bad GPS, no flash player on the browser and such a limited memory, is the final nail to its coffin.

I cant wait for a potent multimedia Android phone, with such display and with 800-1Ghrz CPU.

wait for the nexus one enterprise version with a keypad . that will make this outdated !!!

great phone but no point in buying it after nexus one release and especially when the keypad version of n1 is coming out .

Do you have reason to believe the Nexus One won't support multitouch? Last I heard thte situation with the Droid/Milestone was analogue to that of the Nexus One wrt multitouch: not supported in the US due to software patents but supported in EU.

I am a NOKIA fan but this does not mean I can´t be objective: this is a GREAT phone! I am thinking in buying it...

                              Thanks GSMARENA for this review!

thanks for the review! were are the rest of the photo samples?? you normaly at the end show a few more! the ones you show, are ok, not as bad as some samples from the droid (software uptades maybe?) but it would be cool, a few more, like, macro shots, indoor shots, low light shoots, only flash shoots, you get the picture right? eheh
been wainting a wile for this review, and you just give me the "go" just sent the form ordering one from expasys, plus 2 batts dock ,external battery charger etc.. hope it smokes my n97 out of the watter!

btw, i would like to see, (in this and all the others reviews,of course!) more detailed battery performance test, like full stress test, video playback test, browser test (with 3g or wi fi or bouth!) call test, and a test "phone focused" like 25 min call and 50 sms day, or something in 2g,and see how long it runs.
think in most reviews battery testing is the thing that lacks the most(all over the web) and is one of the things that is most crucial to a mobile phone, if not, their not mobile! and then you could make those cool grafics you like to do with the sound and stuf, butt comparing battery performance, of course, as your data base on tested batts grows.
                                  cheers

*Large and heavy - Large! it is only 13.7mm thick with a slide out qwerty (the thinnest ever)and its shell is made out of aluminium, not cheap plastic. None of these are disdvantages

*No smart and voice dialing - Does have voice dialing and option to use search function to search contacts by sliding out keyboard and typing first few letters of name

*Somewhat clumsy camera interface and limited camera features - More camera features than most smartphones

*No Flash support for the web browser - not a disadvantage, as no other phone has proper completely smooth working flash in browser (including N900 which only serves to show irritating flash adverts). Option to use Youtube app when using the browser is all that is available for now for most smartphones and it works well. Flash 10.1 already demoed on a Droid and coming to most smartphone os's soon.

                                      Technically the highest res available in the "market" is the SHARP 931SH and WX-T931 with 1024 x 480px (touch screen);

I just noticed something odd in GSM reviews right now. When Nokia has 5mp cameras with double led flash and 100 features like in the N900 it's "outdated" according to GSMarena, but when Iphone makes a 3mp without flash or autofocus it's great, and the same with Milestone. I think GSmarena should get their biased act together before Nokia fans start putting pieces together. And i am a unbiased Blackberry user.
