LG GW620 review: Start-up package

1 April 2010
LG are not quite making Android headlines. Catching up with local rivals Samsung is obviously not the first thing on their mind. Not to mention that HTC are desperately out of reach. Alright, Android is not LG’s pet project...

have been using the 620 for about 2years now and have had nothing but trouble from day one.... First the battery went, then the phone decided to lock itself, these days after months of the screen freezing andthe phone randomly turning itself off at will... I have consigned it to the rubbish as a very expensive mistake... Although I did love the web browsing capability... So i would warn others not to bother...

I just bought this phone from mnvcollections.com and I totally love it!
A lot of people said the LG GW620's battery has some issues. But I figured that if you have the right software for the battery then you are good to go.
And I have even used the LG GW620 as a Torch recently and it works like a breeze.
So if you like Android-based phones then you should buy the LG GW620.

The GW620 actually sports the same Qualcomm CPU as other handsets in its class; it is actually superior with regards to other components found in comparable SPs--the resistive nature of it touchscreen withstanding.
Its sluggish performance can be directly attributed to bloatware.
Please root your phone; my assertion is based on first-hand observation.

Tony (Rogers Custome, 05 Apr 2010Talked to LG tech support and they have informed me that th... morethe rep you spoke to is wrong.

very typical with rogers - the reps generally give you canned responses that don't end up being very helpful or informative.

According to a few sources (not the least of which is a rogers customer service rep named Mary who's job is to engage the community using social media tools), LG is working on bringing Andoid 1.6 to the Eve.

              http://www.iwantmyonepointsix.com/?p=184

Ho hum you say... 1.6 is still 2 versions behind the most current - and youre right - but you need to realize that 1.6 uses a more compatible kernel version than 1.5 does - so porting to 2.1 is a more likely possibility.

At $50 on a 3 year contract the Eve cant be beat - its not a Nexus 1, but its 10 times cheaper AND has an awesome slide out keyboard! Im really looking forward to getting 1.6 on there and working out how to get 2.1 installed.

nice looking quality phones at a good price. Is a first mpression so I buy them.
But the CPU is slow. Much slower than rivals such as Nokia.

So like I said earlier Rogers is limiting its customers to 1.5 to get us to buy all their new models like the galaxy and the x10.

When a phone model gets a software update it's through the manufacturer. This unfortunately does limit customer services reach but you problem is with LG not rogers. The same issue arose with the HTC Dream and Magic Models. HTC specifically released a notice to the public that upgrades to newer versions of android would not be available. Sorry for the inconvenience

I 100% agree with you, I am never in my lifetime going to buy an LG phone again, I was disappointed before and I thought no... maybe I can give them a shot they are launching their first Android Device they're gonna make it sweet... but nope its a peice of S***.

Going Google N1 or Sony X10 for my next device.

I don't get LG's prob in addressing the shortcomings of this phone or the lot of others in their own badge for that matter.Especially when we observe between what they can do from design cues apparent in their Chocolate series,to scoring the WP7 LG Panther proto and that GW990 Moorestown unit. And this is what they can come up with their own Android debut?I can understand if they're avoiding from a big splashy start but really?

I've had the phone for a few months and I'll be honest. I'm not happy with it. My major problem is that the CPU is SUPER SLOOOOOWWWWWWW and it constantly freezes and if you dont have a good task killer like ATK installed the unit is almost useless. The good thing about this phone is the Keyboard and the Camera. Keyboard is very nice to type on and the camera while it is slow it does take very good quality pictures. Rogers has also been very slow in trying to get ANY NEW ANDROID Software out. U.S. Android users are enjoying 2.1 and 2.0 software while we are stuck on 1.5 and 1.6 in canada.
