I couldn't find the Sketch Memo and Sound and Video Editor like what the review said in my Samsung Galaxy S. I wonder why?

        Hi all...

I just got the Galaxy S, love it....but does anyone else have this problem of the phone over heating, battery life lasting less than half a day? (Ok, I admit it, been playing Pocket Empires on it ever since I discovered it in the android market).

Is it normal for the phone to heat up, almost as hot as my macbook?
        Thank you for your time!

        -Vivien

Too Fongy -- how easy is loading videos onto the phone? Is it ready to play with just a simple file transfer? Is there any conversion required whatsoever, or can this phone just play any video like VLC can on the PC?

                    Hey you crazy kids!
Just thought I'd give you all an update - in particular about the battery!!
Well, 3rd day using it now, and yesterday I put the "power saving mode" on as well as the "automated backlight" - and stopped using live wallpapers... and it dramatically increases the battery life...
I used it quite a bit sorting out contacts (if you need tips on how to transfer numbers using backup pro / google / facebook and then adding them actually onto the 'phone' - without doing it, you can't create groups or assign ringtones, etc.!
                    Anyway...
I used it for 2 hours music / radio - sorted out and linked loads of contacts, downloaded apps, generally messed with it (I had updates going on FB / Twit / Email, etc.)
And it was about 35% by 6pm-ish...
In order to run it down completely - I managed to watch most of 'up' in HD (or had it running whilst doing other things) and then increase contrast until it truly died...
I do think several charges has helped, and definitely the auto-power feature...
And yes, you don't need the contrast on full brightness for the screen to look lovely (but it's nice to increase it when showing it off to people!!)
So... all in all - disaster averted - I noticed someone, somewhere put that the X10's screen is better than Galaxy S in sunlight - trust me - it isn't - I've seen BOTH in real life (not just a video) and nothing compares to the Samsung...
Totally and utterly impressed with this phone - I was a bit sceptical at first (like many) and I'll be even happier with the Froyo update (even more RAM to play with according to everyone on here!)

                    2 quick questions for anyone!!!

                    1. Is there a way of overriding the "low battery" feature - and still use apps until it does run out?

                    2. Does anyone know of a decent silicone / hard case for it and where to get one? (UK) It's slim enough to be able to fit into a case and still be very very usable (I'll probably get a screen protector too!!)

Thanks everyone for input and comments - I'll be checking this section periodically so any questions you want answering - just ask!
                    :)

I received my phone today and have two problems (challenges!) with it so far:

                      1) I copied an mkv file on the phone which plays but no video is displayed. I can hear the sound though...?

                      2) I can't get a 3G connection, is there somewhere where you must turn this on? If you go into settings, about phone and then status, mine says the mobile network type is "UMTS" and then under "mobile network state" it says "disconnected". How or what have I got to do to get my phone onto the internet using GPRS/3G etc? I am stumped on this...

Just got it yesterday. It's so much better than the iphone 3G which I've upgraded from. 30 pounds a month on Orange. 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 500 MB of internet per month. Faster 3G connection than 02 who I was previously with, even in the Lake District! Video player plays your .avi files with no converting, better than Apple. Clear as a bell. Lovely depth to the pictures. HD recording works a treat. Perfection.

No touche device can last more than 48hrs on "moderate" use. Its always been like that for old and modern day touch devices.

If you get 24hrs of battery life for "moderate" use then consider your self extremely luck!

                            @ Fongy
The device has 512MB of ram, you need to research on things before you start any FUD. Buut only 256MB is usable as of now and this goes for ALL andriod devices since the current Kernel version of andriod does not support more than 256MB. with 2.2 also comes a new kernel that can support 512MB.. It kinda sounds primitive that there are memory limits, out of the box andriod should support atleast 2GB and not 256MB.

                              Hi all!!!
Well, first real day using it (and as per my last comment not a great deal) and I got the low battery message at about 4pm (meaning I couldn't even play music walking home as it doesn't allow it) and now at 6.30pm it has died...
                              :O(
                              A couple of quick questions...

                              a) is there any way to continue using apps, etc. like music player when there is low battery - there's nothing in the manual / on the net...
                              b) is anyone else experiencing this?

I have to say, I'm going to do a few more tests in the next day or two... and if it doesn't improve, I'm afraid I'm going to have to return it (NOOOOOO!!!!)

I have to say if this is the norm - then the review of this phone on here is fatally flawed... 2 days with extensive usage? No chance, not even 1 day moderate usage...

                              :(

Galaxy S Users (and the review if you're reading this!!!)
The review said the battery lasted almost 2 days of extensive usage....
Now.. unless I'm mistaken, mine is going to be lucky to get to 10pm tonight... with very very moderate usage...
                                Has anyone else experienced this?
Admittedly I've had it at full contrast with a live wallpaper running and about 30 mins music (so far) and 30 mins radio... a bit of surfing, messaging and downloading (and a few HD video clips to show people)...
                                But nothing mega...

Anyone else experiencing this? I use a task manager to kill unnecessary programs too...

                                Could be worrying this...

                                :O/

Fongy i have to correct you and make you happy :) i9000 galaxy s has 512 ram and u can see it if you disassemble your phone. Don't do it it has been done already. And you will be able to use that ram in the future firmware update which includes 2.2 Froyo :))) and it will get a lot clearer to you and everyone else who sees 256 ram onboard :)
                                    Best regards Kelth ~~~

                                      Hi Guys,

Just received my new Galaxy S and thought I'd give you my impressions...
If you're read my previous posts you'll know I'm not a fanboy of any model / company (my previous phone was HTC Hero, I've had SonyE phones, Nokias and Samsungs before!)

The first thing you notice is how slim and light it is... not in a negative way, because it does feel sturdy in your hand... So don't worry about it snapping / breaking, it has a nice curve at the bottom to assist holding, and I think the construction is just fine (and as I've said it looks FAR better than pictures - but very similar to iphone - no bad thing...)

Secondly - RAM - it's definitely 256MB RAM - not 512 as previous articles... - I've checked my apps and have taskmanager running and they both confirm this - naughty Samsung for saying otherwise...

HOWEVER - the phone runs SOOOOOOOOO smooth - probably about 2 x or more faster than the HTC Hero - just opening basic apps like audiomanager, etc. you really notice the difference...

The main attraction is the screen, and until you see it yourself, it's just unbelievable - and if you think, that this is what you're going to be looking at for 95% of the time... it really is a showcase... Just watching UP or Avatar or Alice in Wonderland (even TV series) just looks amazing - it's made everyone go "WOW - That's better than my TV!!!" - and there's no lag when jumping through a video (you know, that stutter you get and pixelation - nothing like that at all!)

The music player deserves a mention - it really looks the part and is (dare I say it) better than the iphone coverflow system - the Galaxy's looks modern, sleek and sexy!!

Finally - I have noticed the phone has "frozen" a few times in the 3 days I've had it - no more or less than the HTC - and that is because I'm really putting it through its paces... but it's nothing you should be worrying about...

If you want to know anything else - just ask! It's well worth the upgrade, there are some great contracts available for it - and I upgraded early!!!

I don't know how phones can get better than this - it has a screen to die for, it's certainly got the speed (despite 256 RAM) and more than enough storage for all users...

                                      VERY HAPPY!!!
