htc tattoo is like this and a hell of a lot of your usual apps wont work on x10 mini,,developers used the usual resolution for all there development and it means extra work to get things to use the qvga res so most devs wonts bother..

It means that you don't throw the telephone away when the battery dies - for phones with non-user-replaceable batteries, replacing the cells at a service centre after warrenty has expired will probably cost (a lot) more than the value of the phone. Disposing of otherwise functional electronics because the battery is dead is wasteful and environmentally unfriendly
2. If you are not going to be able to charge your phone for a few days but still want to use the phone (e.g. travelling/hiking etc) you can take a spare, charged battery with you and swap it when the charge on the first battery is used up

whats the + point of any OS is that you can install 3rd party applications on it. when software don't come pre-installed it should'nt be considered as draw-back, you have application stores from where you get the desired software.

Without wanting to get into an 'oh yes it is, oh no it isn't' arguement only two 'latches' are needed:
- One for the rear cover (this takes up no extra space)
- One internal clip to hold the battery in place internally
The only additional space which is 'consumed' by a replaceable battery is the external casing around the lithium cells, and I'm guessing that's going to be 1 or 2 mm in each dimension. This phone may have a small frontal surface area but it's *thick* - if that slight extra space can't be absorbed in the design then they could reduce the battery capacity (very) slightly instead
I don't think technical reasons were driving this decision - I think Sony Ericsson are using 'size' as a fig-leaf so they can 'dip their toe in the water' concerning non-replaceable batteries and if they find the market will bear it then we'll see more (larger) models appearing from them with this forced-upgrade-path 'built-in'

Such behaviour takes built-in obselescence to another level. There's no real justification for it and it is needlessly wasteful and ecologically unfriendly - I wish GSMArena had been more critical of the phone for this reason. Sure, people reading this board can probably change the battery with a screwdriver and a kit bought off eBay, but most owners will simply toss the thing when it starts to need too regular recharging
I refused to buy any iPhone/iTouch/iPod etc for this reason and I hope customers will reject other manufacturer's models that try the same trick

There's a number of mistakes and omissions in the review. It's not just double/triple tap to message...it's got T9, and if you're not satisfied with that you can always try a downloaded qwerty keyboard, or even better; SlideType. Wisepilot is pre-installed (free 1 month) for navigation, and there's Roadsync for exchange sync.
Many review sites except for the very android specific ones (that are expert) makes the same mistake as GSM Arena makes here; fault a single phone for failings in the underlying os, i.e. Android. Many of the shortcomings are common to all Android phones, and only some of them are adressed in 2.1 and 2.2.
I'm satisfied with my buy of this phone...it's a powerful little cutie, and for that price and size, you can't complain about it missing things that the big ones have that are physically impossible - it's up to you if you prefer the small size, or the benefits of a larger Android :)

The screen is too small. Samsung Spica or HTC Tatoo are better choice in the price range.

My only issue is with the thickness of this set. It gonna look horrible having this small stone in the pant's pocket.

I dont think its too special, its a small, quite good looking phone, with the most basic covered, at a reasonble price-tag. And if you add to that the potential it has, thanks to android, its quite more powerfull than any other small phone out there... In fact, its one of the smallest phones avalible today.
This has a lot of appeal for the female audience...
I think you guys at GSMarena are just too focused on the tech-crowd here... and for them, this might not be the phone, but for an average user, it has a lot of appeal.
I dont think its an experiment.
1 the software too worked thru for that. SE dont have the kind of money lying around to do this much work on an experiment.
2 there is a second model coming, the pro version, and SE ceartainly cont have the kind of money to put to experiments out there at the same time.
Its a good phone with a whole lot of mass appeal... i just does not have a whole lot of geek mass appeal (but considring that geeks are quite fewer than the mass of none geek, that should not be a problem).

So if that was the only downside, its not really a problem... but if you on the other hand find that when using qwerty, the screen gets a little crowded, that a whole other story. But qwerty, that it can do, you just have to download it.
