Samsung I9000 Galaxy S vs. Apple iPhone 4: Collision course

06 August 2010
It’s not like you’re out of options. Here’s one. Another one would be to get a friend’s iPhone 4 and another friend’s Galaxy S, put them on a table, close your eyes and… tell your friends to bugger off. Or you can do it the old-fashioned way. Flip a what...

svante, 16 Aug 2010For me, there are a LOT of apps that are not available on t... moreAn app called Runkeeper does the exact same thing on both iphone and android... If you don't even search for similar apps before whining, yea maybe you should remain on iphone.
Last point for today, a lot of android apps are not on the android market (yet) but straight on the app developper's homepage.
I remember the appstore in it's first year on iphone, frankly it was just worse than android at the same age.

Mark, 16 Aug 2010Apple haters will always exist. Fact is, Apple products are... moreYea, I agree iphone has good business apps, but the very same apps are coming out shortly with the same user experience as you call it, be it oracle's or sybase products.

It's just sad iphone fanboys have to come to :
    - Resell price, price of phone
    - Business apps
    - Worst of all : mentionning hardware encryption on a phone with no removable media support, bluetooth/wifi file transfer, nor micro usb port rofl

Keep calling your iphone 4 precious, afterall, it must be all you've got in your life to be this vindicative about it.

Anonymous, 16 Aug 2010So you are more of an expert than the legendary, gaming gen... moreI don't own a SGS you know. I have an iPhone 3GS.

      Also...
Hardware encryption (lol yea everybody uses that, also, every businessman stores his sensible data in his iphone (which can't even store large files anyway), in that case even a simple software encryption is enough for 99.99% of the world, that just yet again a "helicopter windshield grade glass" point coming from apple.

I make games, I know how 3D engines are working, ask any developper carmack is just bulshitting about 60 steady fps on a powervr535, even with a godlike optimisation it won't run 60 fps once all the sfx, scripting, debugging are added but thanks, you certainly know more than me to judge the RAGE engine and say it's the awesomest and will kill the PS2.

Namely ALL apps that cost something. In Europe (where I live) we can only access the free part of the android market. So, that's why I hesitate to go for Android. Also my favorite app is "RunMeter" that is only available on iPhone :-(

Well well, gsm literaly just said it how it is and agreed with what many people have been discussing recently, the iphone 4 is not market leader or best in anyway,on the only thing it does best is empty bank accounts and lose signal.Android is advancing extremely fast, satisfying customersd needs freely and reasonably priced with out apples 'premium name tag'. Htc desire, samsung galaxy etc are the best phones available and for hundreds of thousands joining android on a daily basis even better models will be availble to choose from coming up the xmas season! iphone 4 despite apples claims wasn't even up to date tech when launched. working for a phone company ive seen first hand how easy it is to lose signal on the iphone 4 and how many customers come back saying its very hard to maintain signal in locations where their previous phones before and still now have no reception problems. Apple fanboys still defend the iphone 4 here like mindless drones for steve jobs, god love them, they really are under apples control.

                What a really collision, people.

I've been aiming my eyes on SGS for months since it's been advertised many times - as well as previewed and reviewed - in the Internet.

Anyway, just want to share my thoughts.
I'd used iPhone 3GS for few months, and yes, I agree on its simple interface (means also ease on use), nice touch experience and great support (incl. AppStore), nice music player and video, too.

HOWEVER, there are few things that make me unsatisfied:
                - no file transfer via bluetooth, which i prefer to use the most to keep my downloaded-email files on my laptop/other cellphones, than I have to use the data cable (unpractical, so to speak).

                - it's so iTunes dependent, in term of PC connectivity. no iTunes, no iPhone.

                - no possibility to use its huge memory capacity as a storage (eg. if you want to use it to store your files mobile between iPhone and laptop/computer).....or perhaps it's because of my little knowledge?

Well, as I have no experience on SGS yet, I think it's better if I wait till it arrives at home ;)

I might accept that iPhone has some advantages over the Samsung Galaxy S (hardware encryption for example- if you really need it), but using the resale value as a point for the iPhone is just lame.
Who knows if iPhone 4 does nou have a hardware problem who will manifest is a year or two.
What if iPhone 4 has a hidden problem like battery overheating and becoming useless in 1-2 years. What will be the resale value of that iPhone 4? How about the people who jailbreak their iPhones and lose the guarantee? That's a plus point too?
I was ready to buy an iPhone 4, but I'm glad I bought a Galaxy S instead. I like the freedom given by the SGS without losing the guarantee (apps from where I want, web-flash). At the end, what app is there on the apple market which does not have a corresponding app for Android either on the Android Market or internet, and you cannot live without it?

One of the advanced business features the iPhone has built in.

It's weird how people just can't accept that Apple has made a brilliant phone that blows most others away, so they sit their and come up with the most petty reasons.

So how's the A-GPS in the Galaxy coming along?

                      They fixed it yet?

I have never liked apple products because they restrict me in many ways. The last think I would think about is pay so much for a device that doesn't offer much freedom. If I had to user an apple product, I would use a good desktop for graphics works only. People should be open-minded and try out new stuff, being stuck with one device because it is the best is silly because one day it will not be the best since other markets are competing agressively to provide better products to users. In few years, apple will be like any other provider and the same technology that other competitors have.

Accept it people Iphone 4 is legitimately and realistically better than any other phone right now

who cares about the resale value were talking about the features and performance and Samsung Galaxy S has more features and has good performance comparing to Apple Iphone 4 and the new Apple Iphone 4 has weak signal when your calling.

Apple haters will always exist. Fact is, Apple products are always the most user friendly, and even if they don't have the most functionality, the ones that that they do choose to implement are done in the best, most convenient manner in the industry.

So enjoy your spec sheets with all the functions while your phone is as fun to use as filling out a 15 page immigration application.

Oh, and whoever says that an iPhone is not meant to be a business phone, I've got a little something for you. The App Store has more apps in the business category then all of the other smartphones combined. And they're all neater and more usable than your crappy BlackBerry, Evo or Samsung apps.

Have a good day, and stop bashing people who have money for making the right choice when purchasing a phone.
