09 August 2010
It's the third - and last - of our series of articles charting the evolution of mobile phones. After checking on the way form factors have changed over time and remembering all those devices that the cell phones killed, it's now time to focus on the features...

In the next 3 years we may see flexible unbreakable AMOLED screens to be used in mobile phones which are into development phase by samsung right now. you can bend it or you can even hammer it, its unbreakable.
Just Imagine how that can help the mobile phone companies which may go on innovating the form factors on their phones, example ball-shaped mobiles in the future.

I saw the video and I was really impressed.

Not to mention about the A925/A6188, the latter was released in 2000.

You see "universal" does not mean every single phone out there has to support it....There are many models out there that do not have the 3.5mm standard.

No...Iphones are a very very small percentage of the total number of mobile phones and so their exclusion does not make any feature non-universal.

The other thing... Most 3rd party headphone (not headsets) for the iPhone work on all other 3.5mm phones. But most 3rd party headphones designed for other phones might not work for the Iphone.

And you said...."if two devices can't work together, the plug should not (physically) fit the socket. "

          Exactly.....Apple is stupid!

Yes headset standards of differen... moreSo, the 3.5 mm connector is far from universal if I can't use any headset with any phone, if I can't use regular headphones with iPhone and as half the headsets on the market are designed and marketed for iPhone.

The worst thing is that a simple rule is broken - if two devices can't work together, the plug should not (physically) fit the socket.

What does Apple contribute? Facetime?...I mean only that word...not the actual video call as that was invented ages ago!

Yes headset standards of different manufacturers are different. Yet, all normal 3.5mm headphones work on all 3.5 mm jack mobile phones....Except the Iphone.

Like everything else....Apple wanted to be different on this and this is why you have this problem.

Any normal headphone will work perfectly with both Blackberry and Nokia....But might not work with Apple.

Nice article .. but why is there no write up on the cameras in mobiles?

How the age old VGA cameras are now led into the megapixel wars? the 5mp camera shootout wars ? the mobiles now capable of doing HD videos??

I know the evolution is yet to be completed as they still dont replace a good digital camera .. but guys with N8 and Satio on the case .. and lots more to come .. This is one other area that is worth mentioning every word ..

Am sure every other person clicks more with a mobile than a camera .. How mobiles have helped our lives in capturing memories .. come on guys .. this needs to be added ASAP ..

or am I the only one excited about a camera on a mobile phone?
