Nokia N8 preview: First look

05 October 2010
We were almost starting to suspect mobile phones of giving up and playing soft. They seemed unstoppable you know. They went from 5 to 12 in no time and there was nothing to suggest that digicams will ever get a timeout for a much needed breather...

Anonymous, 09 Oct 2010Are you selling a phone or get any paid.. don't waste yo... moreHa ha ha ha you are a comedian aren't you?

So I am assuming that all the iPhone and Android owners in this thread own N8s? This can be the only reason to explain why they are commenting based on your logic!

As someone who is interested in buying the phone I can almost guarantee I have watched, and read, more reviews on this phone that you have so am probably far more qualified to comment. If you, as an obvious Nokia/Symbian hater have read as many then I find that rather interesting....

This is N8 forum. We went here to see comments about the phone. we don't care about how much google stock costs. we don't care about the reception issues of iphone4. we don't even care about android. they have their own threads, forums and review sections. we want to know everything about N8, what it can do. we don't want some trash from a different phone, OS etc.

Again, this is N8 preview forum. This is not iphone4 or android. go to their own respective sections if you want to post opinions or whatever info you want to post about those iphones.

And perhaps your comments about seeking reinforcement for your recent purchase is more accurately applied to yourself? I live in SA. The N8 is not released here yet. I am in here doing research on a phone I am interested in. I would have assumed this was normal on GSM Arena? You on the other hand appear to have no desire to buy this phone and are clearly the owner of another brand so you must merely be trolling and trying to belittle the opposition that is making your phone look inferior.....

[deleted post]"Haha this will never match Iphone 4, HTC Desire, Samsung Galaxy S.
12 mega doesent meen good pictures, it need to have a good optical zoom, again it is a phone and the camera is not the first think that you think of when buying a phone. Nokia is still falling and in 2-3 years they will still be making rubbish phones and they will only sell phone to people that can not use other phones than Nokia witch is so funny."

Interesting. I had no idea the iPhone, Desire and Galaxy had optical zoom? Wow

The first thing I think about when buying a phone is whether it can make calls and send messages. After all it's primary use is as a communication device. So why bother talking about pretty animated user interfaces and the like? Why bother reviewing the web browser? Why bother with anything else other than whether it can make and receive calls 100% (oops, what was that about the iPhone again?)?

Please also feel free to explain why Nokia users cannot use other phones? It was my understanding that it was other phone users who feel the Symbian OS is just too "complex" and not "simple" enough. Maybe it is actually people like yourself that cannot wrap their heads around the "complexity" of Symbian. Now that is funny!

Please GSMarena, publish your full review about this phone! I'm a really Nokia fanboy ever since, so I want to hear from professionals like you what will be the fortune of Nokia's new camera phone king, camcorder king, and even its OS will soon competitive enough with other mature Oses out there!

Got the phone on wednesday. At first, it was a little annoying to use. My dad got it for me in China so the manual was in Chinese, but i had downloaded the manual in Englsh. Unfortunately, it's not very comprehensive, so it took me awhile to figure things out. Data transfer was a b*tch. Contacts were easy to transfer, but with 10GB of pictures, video and audio files, it took me awhile to figure out the best way to transfer them. bluetooth switch is not recommended for this and the N8 uses Ovi Suite not PC Suite so i couldn't hook up the phone to my computer to upload as a mass storage device. Fortunately I figured out hooking up my N85 as a mass storage device so it sped up things. Didn't take long afterwards. No problem installing applications or using them...except for one. Got the Memory Full msg often when trying to add pictures to my contacts using FS Caller. But other than that it's been a gem to use and show off. I'll post more when i've used it more

In addition, there is only an American phone maker that is a minor and has been living on selling business asset so as to make android phones.
Go back check your fact sheet!

Yeah, in the past 18 months, Android got best time, maybe in life, in terms of market growth. But the chance or mercy was given by Nokia as Nokis was revamping its technology, that is new Symbian and Meego!

Now Nokia is making its way road back to the KING OF MOBILE with the debut N8.

Technology is upgrading and we should decide a phone that best suits our needs, not because i have been using this for years and so I should keep on using it for the rest of my life. However,i want ur suggestion,I basically use my phone for browsing, lots of music and few games. I don't need a flash browser and 5MP is enough for me. I dont do much photography. Now plz suggest me a phone,N8 iPhone 4???
P.S- I need good battery backup.

                                      Killersmith, 08 Oct 2010You want logic...... Logic1: This aint a blog, this is a... more:-) okay..this ain't a blog..got me there..

I know Symbian will never be really as long as Nokia is around, but that's part of Nokia's problem really..and my comment should not be taken literally about Symbian dying, it is going to get sidelined so badly, it means the same thing..

What I am saying in essence is, the application development environment for Symbian is by far the worst, complicated by the fact that most of the devices running Symbian right now are sub-standard in system config compared to the iphone/BB/android population out there..today an iphone 1st gen also has pretty decent app support, but many 3-4 year old Nokia phones don't, because Nokia chose to leave them out, they have traditionally made money selling hardware, and not software, and how do u make ppl buy more hardware? by making older hardwares obsolete..this is why they always played the incremental improvement game, every phone just a bit better than the old one..today that game has bitten them back as they were caught napping in the smartphone market as all the devices outgrew Nokia, 18 months ago people would have questioned Android's future as it was not supported by Nokia, Apple or BB..but now Android has eaten all their lunch..

And fyi, the stock is down about 50% in the last two years, and 30% in the last one..precisely due to the fact that they are losing market share in all segments..in the lower end of the market by local players sourcing components from China..which was bound to happen one day..but what has got the stock's goat is their fast declining market share in the smartphone market..they have reduced their guidance twice in the last one year..
