Really. it's a great article. I helps consumers navigate phone manufactures and service providers marketing propaganda. It's amazing how many organizations claim there displays are superior to all others.

good article but you should put HTC Desire over HTC Desire HD
HTC Desire HD SuperLED doesn't impress samsung's S-AMOLED Rocks Apple iphone 4s Display is in different league all-together
but Samsung Super-AMOLED wins overall

Anonymous, 29 Nov 2010"extra resolution on a 3.5 or 3.7 inch screen from reg... moreYour right the extra resolution doesn't matter at all but it is exactly that which apple idrones kept flaunting mindless here for ages literally repeating Steve Jobs pr speech word for word as if it had been mentally implanted in their minds (subliminally?)
The extra resolution in the amoled2 will finally make them see light on the situation, and prevent further drone behavior.
On hindsight though the iphone 4 screens being small at 3.5 compared to the 4.3 - possibly 4.5 screen of the amoled2,the new high resoltuion matrix on such a large screen would be noticeably to the human eye coupled with the stated contrast and energy efficient benefits

Then you go on about SuperAMOLED reaching over 1000x600 pixels like it's a good thing?
Way to fail to conceal your anti Apple Agenda!!

I like how the resolution display column is simply skated over with the specs.
You don't judge photographs by contrast and bright colours do you?
Iphone 4's display is as good as the Samsungs anyday, just that it uses more power.

What a great article GSMARENA, I can rely on them being neutral unlike other sites that favour one or the other. Keep up the good work.

extra resolution on a 3.5 or 3.7 inch screen from regular daily phone viewing distance is irrelevant, anything more than 800 x480 on a 3.5 inch screen is useless from regular viewing distance (not that microscope screen close ups Apple like to hog),its like 1080p on a 17 inch monitor.
Apple would surely want to up to super amoled over retina but wouldnt over lack of supplies. With super amoled shortages its quite probable apple won't have it to use in next years iphone either, with retina already slightly behind its a sign they'll struggle to keep pace again.
Super amoled is the way to go,with super amoled2 of 1000x600 coming Q2 2011 the future is quite apparent, providing theres a supply availabilty that is!!

Total amount of pixels isn't really good comparison. Linear resolution should be used.

A quick search of your site shows up .............. "S-LCD was sharper than AMOLED (which uses an unusual matrix with fewer sub-pixels) and offered better color reproduction along with better contrast. AMOLED parried with more vibrant colors and darker blacks."

All that writing and no mention of the pentile matrix of the OLED screens. While the screen of the HTC desire HD may not look as "punchy" as the AMOLED/OLED screens it is sharper and text looks a lot better. You've done an article on the downsides of AMOLED vs TFT LCD before so you should know better.
