You may actually be right on LCD burn in. Again me actually being able to admit some mistakes unlike yourself. LCD nowa days does not really have the burn in effect.
But you are still stretching and regurgitating the whole Amoled burn in problem. Is it there? Yes. Is it this wide spread, big worry, deal breaking problem? No. It is not that huge of a problem. It happens, but you are trying to make it seem like it's something so much worse than it is which only proves your fear of it's advantages.

Obviously this is about Nova. As the tittle clearly states. I also didn't start the bashing fit.

It never said Nova had better sunlight viewing first off. Second it's readability is only slightly better. Most people prefer the nice colors of Amoled actually. Few don't. And some who are jealous of it's superiority make up cartoon and extreme crap. Also the fact the colors can be made to look more natural. Also Amoled has more than just back and contrast. Though those are two big parts and you try to make them seem meaningless. While viewing blacks in comparison the Super Amoled will look far superior even more so than to a normal LCD. Also not to mention it will have much better contrast even in sunlight. It's overall size and power consumption is a lot less. Also it's viewing angels are way way better. And yes it does matter. Many people on a daily basis definitely use their phones at different angels. It is also extremely useful when showing the phone to multiple people.

Now you tell me when will 700nits aside from being outside will do you any good? It's a cool feature and a great screen non the less, but Amoled has most of the advantages and is only getting way more superior by the day. It's about to dominate the TV world shortly as well. It's lifespan is getting much better, it's brightness is being worked on, the colors are adjustable(though few people will ever use this) and its already way better as it is. True blacks, epic contrasts, better overall consumption, extremely higher response times, best viewing angels, best in sunlight, thinner, bendable, nicer looking. Also the bigger the screen gets the more extremely noticeable Amoled's advantages become. on 4inch+ screens they are noticeable. On TV's Amoled will look like God, Jesus, and shear beauty in comparison to all other LCD screens. Even if something like Nova were to hit TV.

Laurynas, 15 May 2011Here is another "Burn-In" vote: http://forum.xda... moreThese votes are extremely unreliable because the users who experienced the burn-in effects are far more inclined to search such topic hence resulting in exaggerated percentage of users experience this issue. There hasn't been a large enough number of complaints for it to be a significant issue regarding AMOLED screens.

color reproduction:sky in Nova display is not natural blue,it has green tint, whereas optimus 2x and ip4 ips panels produce natural blue sky.
if you are serious about color reproduction accuracy,IPS is your one and only choice, and i don't think this is to change in any near future. And i hope gsmarena and mobile display panel makers not waste time more on trivia such as brightness, get real please, include NTSC colour gamut coverage and white point in your reviews next time

Unless you compare your phone with a group of your friends with different phones, I don't think you will notice the difference between LCD and AMOLED.

Having said that, I like to keep my brightness around 30-40% too lengthen the battery life and to keep my eyes from getting sore. But even with lowered brightness, eligibility under sunlight isn't impaired so I don't understand how practical this 700 nit brightness will be in everyday use. Even when I watch movies on my phone I don't need to go over 50% brightness. Isn't it about how the image looks on the screen not how bright the image is? Seeing the pictures, and having compared some LCDs and AMOLEDS at stores, I don't think I'll be able to notice the differences when I'm using my phone. =P

Just a question because I'm curious... When is whiter white useful?

If you make a search on the web you will find that more than 99% of technical sites say that LCD doesn't burn in. May be, they not want to say that LCD has never problems (that some person wrongly call burn in), but if the problem was one insignificant for LCD, they shouldn't have say something different.
With LCD, mainly could be affected monitor screens that will remain for years with the same image constantly displayed (day and night). With AMOLED, it can happen after 3 months for phones working only a few hours a day.
Be more concrete: with (recent technology) AMOLED (OLED) you will find a lot of persons witnessing (sometime only after 3 months, I repeat) that they have a "burn in" in their AMOLED screen. With LCD, not.

Don't forget that this thread is about LG Optimus Black / NOVA display.

NOVA has better brightness, better whites, better outdoor view, better readability. The SAMOLED+ has blacks, and contrast. NOVA strengths are more useful.
For me, NOVA and Retina are better choices than Super AMOLED Plus.
Viewing angles at normal usages (up to 95°-105°) are good on both phones, staying up to 0.6 m to the phone (and above these viewing angles, none care).
So you have other choices than SAMOLED+.
We have also the demonstration that with LCD screens, we can have thin phones (see Sony Xperia Arc – LG Optimus Black – NEC Medias 04C), and that with LCD screens we can have low power consumption, not worse than SAMOLED+ (see NOVA and battery life reviews for LG Black).

NOVA is an LCD-IPS display. Retina (iphone) is a LCD-IPS display.
The Super AMOLED Plus has 350 cd/m² for brightness. The NOVA display of the LG Black has 700 cd/m² of brightness (it is double of SAMOLED+). The Retina display of Iphone has 500 cd/m². So, at 100% brightness, the NOVA display shows you the whites as you can not see them on AMOLED kind screens. Compare with NOVA display (with photos, it will be much more easy to see the difference). There is a huge difference in favor on NOVA display.

D79_, 09 May 2011U r never gonna beat amoled screensNOVA is better than AMOLED:
                  - Better brightness (700 cd/m² for NOVA, 300 cd/m² for Super AMOLED Plus)
                  - Whites who are really whites (you have now a standard for white with NOVA: of course, if you set 100% brightness for the Super AMOLED Plus and 50% brightness for the NOVA, you will not see the difference).
                  - Better outdoor view (see reviews on the web)
                  - Better readibility (see reviews on the web)
For viewing angles, there is no difference up to 100° (above we don't care).
Based on the results of many battery life comments on the web for the NOVA, we now can say that the NOVA is not worst than the Super AMOLED Plus for battery life.

Super AMOLED Plus has mainly blacks, and contrasts (and "burn in" for these screens, that can begin as sooner as 3 monthes, and the loss in brightness, and the oversaturated and unnatural colours).
AMOLED has much more problems than plasma before.
SONY is an OLED producer but do not decide to include OLED screens in smartphones.

Look at the Russian review (someone put a link in this thread, you will find it easily). This person says it prefer (and will buy) LG Black instead of Galaxy S2 (translation by google). This is not the only reviewer to have this opinion: the screen is an important pat of this choice.

"LCD and AMOLED screens usually have a slight tint to them, so greys are not quite neutral and even the white is not perfectly white."
I have tested this "white is not perfectly white" in AMOLED screens.
I've compared my SGS (Super AMOLED) with the Samsung SyncMaster 226BW (normal LCD/not LED backlit) and with an old MacBook (also normal LCD) and SGS's screen had the "whitest" white color!

I set my old Omnia II at 30% brightness and it's bright enough. I assume the Super AMOLED and newer are much brighter and just much better in comparison even at 30% brightness. There's also an option to hide the status bar so that the image doesn't get burnt in. There's so many ways to prevent burn in and they are not even that tedious! Being lazy isn't a good excuse to pass on the best screen in the market.

Laurynas, 09 May 2011No, I will burst your bubble! Talking about this picture... moreWhat is your peoples problems. We are not claiming that amoleds do not get burns in, because they do, but that both lcd and amoleds get. So why do you keep this up? Lcd does for 100% sure get it. Amoleds may have a few percent more and some get it faster. It is not at this mass quantity though that makes them unworth it though. In the long run, you get a much much much mcuh better user experiance with the Amoleds.
And again. Lcds do. And yes that was a big reason for screen savers. You need to be able to do full research on both sides and post accordingly as I have done. I addmitted a couple of the weaknesses of the amoleds and pointed out your. False statements.

Point blank is as every type of screen technology, Amoleds have a couple weeknesses. In the big picture though their advantages over other screen types make them phenominal and well worth the their couple week points.

So before you post and speak you apparently need to do your research. And if you can say what you think is bad about Amoleds then I can tell you what is wrong with your crazy exaggerations and what the god points are.
And it is true that screen savers and back light dimming are for more than just power saving. Especially like said for monitors. Monitors got savers to stop the burn in effect. Phones can get them too. Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen. And yes that goes for the Amoleds too. It did not happen to me, but it does happen.

BUT, this is not a disadvantage. Not in the lifetime of your device. Let's get real. You had to look for it, fill the screen all blue, then search for the burn in a dark room. You're gonna use your device for how long ? 2 years ?

The early discovery and limited uses of the light-emitting diode did not show much promise. Very few early researchers would probably have predicted the many, varied uses for this technology. The LED certainly earned its prominent spot in today’s society.
