Why not include 12MP cameraphones on 8MP setting? Would've liked to see how Nokia N8 quality compares to these as was that not previously hailed as the best camera on a mobile phone to date?

Whether you like Sony&Nokia or not, we(including myself) all know Carl Zeiss lens have great quality. You shouldn't be jealous what Sony&Nokia got. It doesn't determine whole quality of shoots, but indeed it inflences some levels.
HTC doesn't have nothing in the competition. Lens? Sensor? Processor(VIA doesn't make ARM so let's don't count)? Sony and Samsung make cameras. They know what they are doing, but htc just buy from other, which at the end, i think i could be an ultimate weakness to that brand.

"The image quality is EXCELLENT."
"There are no purple-fringing or over sharpening – NOISE LEVELS ARE IN CHECK, TOO."
And this is taken from the shootout review:
"While the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S scored AVERAGE MARKS among the best 8MP shooters, it's still a RESPECTABLE cameraphone."
"The Sony Ericsson Arc S chose NOT TO FIGHT NOISE TOO MUCH, which left some visible noise in the photos..."
Pretty contradictory statements, don't you think?

Nokia fanboys always brag about N8 but its not the best even in its 12 MP field because Samsung W880 AMOLED 12M blows N8 like thousands times... Just check the quality on Samsung W880 AMOLED 12M its way way good even its much older than N8 LOL
Samsung W880 AMOLED 12M page on GSMarena and check some of the video sample it has Optical zoom never in millions of years Nokia can do such a thing

I don't need much fr... more@ nameless: Very wise decision man, very wise... I too have an N8.
All through this year, it was really nice owning a phone that was a league apart from competition in camera terms... recorded nice videos without grabbing hellish space...
plus its sound quality is quite close to iPhones.
Plus its a complete phone, has something for everyone...!
Get an N8, you will not regret it...
@ Guys: Is it more wise to get one iPhone 4S or to get 2 Nokia N8's for roughly the same price?? :D

Good job. It's a lot of work, and comments are not all fair.
I wonder a little about the camera of the N9. On some sites, at certain times, it seems really good, and sometimes average. On night, there always noise, okay. But with light, sometimes image seems really sharp, and, above all, colours rendering seems excellent, just excellent. But sometimes it's not good. Do the N9 need special conditions to take good photos ?
Other things : you praise the iPhone 4S. Okay, photos are very good overall. But don't you think colours are oversatured ? The buildings seem yellow in your photo, and all colours seem to vivid to be true, for me. You were there hen you have taken the photo, so can you say the colours on IP4S photos are the true colours ? Again, colours seem reall more accurate on N9 photos according to me.

I own a SS GII so I know after so many months I cant compete. But saying iPhone has better camera then Arc S? When SE provided the camera and lens for iPhone? Sure they will shot in their own feet..giving better materials to their competition instead of using them in their flagship. lol

I am surprised that the Amaze 4G isn't here, but rather the Sensation XE.
IIRC the Amaze 4G is HTC's best cameraphone offering.

Great review! Thanks for that. It is obviously that iPhone is king of fotography in mobile segment. Anybody who doesn't agrees with this isn't objective.
Photos and videos say everything. Everyone who wants best cam will buy iP4S :)

The N8 has the best camera,but it's selles numbers are small compared to the Android flagships! This proves the majority of people are looking for an all-round performant device,not just the camera!...
