Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus review: Aces wild

4 April 2012
The original Galaxy Ace S5830 did well for Samsung in the midrange. And, as we all know by this point, midrange droids are a force to be reckoned with, especially among users looking to move up from dumbphones without breaking the bank. Now, exactly a year later, the S7500 Ace Plus enters...

@mir, 05 Apr 2012give me one good reason why ACE PLUS is better than Live wi... morei can give you plenty! lol
1. bigger screen(doesnt mean better but still can watch videos and stuff more easily)
2. definitely better battery backup-live with walkman is seriously bad in comparison with the ace plus
3.texting(seriously on that small screen, its hard to type)
4.huge internal storage(thats seriously a big plus)
5.even though armed with a good processor..its seriously laggy..when the memory is loaded..the gallery takes forever to open when the sd card(or for that matter even the internal) is full!
6.flash performance is sad.(not saying its better in ace but comparatively its okay for the price)
now for live better than ace
1.compact
2.relatively cheaper
3.seriously 720p videos!!
4.walkman audio output is crystal clear!!

thats it man..its up to u to decide which is good..cheers

Samsung has of the lately been filling the market with all these mid-range, 1ghz phones just as Nokia did with the market during their heydays. unfortunately, the only outcome of this type of marketing is more mediocre phones in the market. saturation does not mean quality, numbers such as processor speed, megapixels etc does not translate into a good product. The China manufacturers are also seemingly following this type of marketing strategy, with their monster dual and quad core phones. Those in emerging markets can rejoice since first time smartphone users have access to technology once unattainable when the first and second generation smartphone came out. Lets just hope that all these will translate to better overall smartphone experience, better after-sales support and just that great overall smartphone experience.

AnonD-36731, 05 Apr 2012Are you saying that the RAM advertised is always in access ... morenot necessarily.. all i am saying is just that the os takes the available ram(naturally) and ics as a matter of fact is more resource friendly than gignerbread..so definitely it will take less ram. cause the minimum requirement for ics is quite less and of the same as gingy.. that means if u hav 512Mb.. its still going to take some amount of ram from it.. not necessarily a lot though

AnonD-15559, 05 Apr 2012for all of u who doubt the gpu and cpu performance pls see ... moreAre you saying that the RAM advertised is always in access of that needed by the OS and used by the out of the box apps that reside there?

Should we expect to see the stated RAM on phones decreased once ICS upgrades are released?
            Really?

            I doubt it.

Overpriced sammy. Xperia mini and LWW are much better in all terms.

for all of u who doubt the gpu and cpu performance pls see the specs again. its a Qualcomm MSM7227"A" chipset..
here A stands for upgraded gpu.. the adreno 200 gpu is optimised in this processor. and also on the whole the entire performance is bloody fast. as mentioned in the review. pls next time donot go by the processor speed alone. for eg: the xperia x10 has a 1ghz processor. yet that thing is slow as hell. the same sammy has a galaxy s and that thing is blazing fast.it depends completely on the chipset. i tested ace plus at the local store, and to be honest, its screen wasnt spectacular, but its performance is top notch. another thing WORTH MENTIONING IS THAT 512Mb RAM is as a whole for the user.. unlike other phones where out of 512Mb, 384 is available to the user as the rest is for te operating system. this is definitely equal to having a adreno 205 chipset in sony neo v and in performance better. neo v has an excellent camera and video but dissapoints in overall experiance and is seriously one laggy system when loaded. also, come on it has the most disguting internal memory. so ppl before bashing a phone do your homework... AnonD-36731, 05 Apr 2012Agree but you can consider every new phone with only 512mb ... moreGPU plays a part, too. With this oldy moldy adreno 200 against the arm mali of xperia sola there is a big difference. I don't know about one v gpu but one v has ICS out of the box. Xperia Neo L for China has ICS too and has adreno 205.
This phone is not so nice for its price, I'd rather go for HTC or Sony if I'm going to buy a midrange one with the same price bracket.

I think I've seen HTC's new model, EVO 4G 2? with dual-core s4 and HD screen of 4.7inch plus 16GB Storage with SD slot, 130MP front camera, on $199. Hard, no impossible to recommend this SG Ace if you're in US.

AnonD-6211, 04 Apr 2012A new phone with no foreseeable ICS update. Agree but you can consider every new phone with only 512mb ram as border line ICS. Even the yet to be released Sony Experia Sola and HTC One V.

So much for getting more functionality into small devices with Google making the OS heavier.

"but neither can compare to the 3 GB of internal memory found in the Ace Plus (both come with 2GB microSD cards, however)"
Is that the highpoint of this device.

This site is commonly calls the most top end phones in smaller sizes 'mid range' so surely this phone is referred to as low end somewhere in this review?

I was really expecting this phone to get a low score. A 200MHz speed increment and Touchwiz 4.0 does not exactly count as a worthy update. They did not even upgrade the weak Adreno 200 GPU. This overpriced phone cannot hold a candle to the likes of Neo V (720p, WVGA, better GPU and loads of other better things, Defy plus or even the Xperia Mini & Mini Pro (Better GPUs and promised ICS update. GSMArena, Please re-review this phone as it is just old wine with a bigger screen.

No front cam, low display pixel density, vga video rec, poor loudspeaker.... OVERPRICED....!!!!!!!!!!

SE Live Walkman is lower in price and still better... Plus ICS in a few months... Lumia 710, Moto Defy+ are also better than ace plus and costs the same... And SE Neo V is just a little more costly and is much much better buy than ace plus(MINUS)......
